Don't get me wrong, I'd drive the **** out of one if you put me behind the wheel and I would have a blast doing it. I just have no desire to build one and I think some of the "cosmetic" tube work is just dead weight that could be done stronger with less tube is all. I'd rather kill hills in a well designed Ultra4 buggy with a tuned suspension lol

However you look at it straight tube is stronger than the fancy bend stuff.
We need to do some more fun wheelin Mikey, you bring out the best in me

I would run the AL. Try it. Just like the MC joints which he likes.

2.5" is much more suitable for lowers and that's the route I'll go once I bend these. The uppers, on the other hand, are more than adequate.

Maybe something like these beasts


For stock TJ arms, I think 1.5" will hold up just fine as lowers.

In theory yes...but underneath a rig in rocks it's a different ballgame that theoretical equations of failure just can't add up. The reason round is stronger is because 'failure typically happens at the edges' on hex tube...what exactly that means is very open to interpretation.

I work with round and hex tube daily on 20-150 ton machines and failure always occurs at the attachment points (welds, bolts ect.) on the machines never on the tubing itself. But once again thats different stresses than a jeep will see. Personally I'd prefer hex over round tube just my opinion though.

It's interesting that Clayton would go with square. While I'm sure every company has it's failed arms out there, I can't recall ever seeing a Clayton thread about it. I have seen a few about RE round arms bending though.

Not adding much tech, just an observation.

Do you know when MC will be release more info about the new control arms? I wish there hadn't been another rock bouncer event last weekend. The number of bouncer was low at the Ultra 4 event with a 15,000 of prize money at the other event.

I picked up a new DD in Columbus, OH yesterday......05 Civic SI. Good on gas, fun as hell, and cheap to own/operate.



No, I won't be getting into the tuner scene.
