Rise Of The Nisky YJ(my baby step build thread)
I live in Niskayuna NY and not many people here have jeeps. They tend to buy the ritzy ritzy stuff instead of getting their fingers dirty. To each their own I guess. I work at two jobs and barley make enough to keep myself going so it is hard to put a lot of money in the jeep. So that’s why I call her baby steps. I do what I can with the little I have. Doing little by little to make her my jeep. And I’m proud to the date of what I have done. All my self (and my dad or friends) all proud to be apart of the jeeping world. She is my second YJ, and im still keeping the love for jeeps strong. I don’t do a ton of roading but I do it enough and I love every second of it!
![]() Ok let’s get this going. ![]() When I first bought her. Totally stock, 4bannger with a 5speed. 180XXXmiles on her. No rust build from the ground up and ready to rock. Rolling on stock tires and what not, but I didn’t think to take a picture. The first thing I decided to do was upgrade tires and rims to 30” Hercules M/T and some newer jeep rims. ![]() ![]() The second thing I decided I had to do was put some fog lights on, didn’t matter where just needed them. ![]() ![]() After a while I didn’t really like where I installed them, so I moved them to this place, much safer on the lights. ![]() ![]() After moving the lights I needed a kick bust stereo for it, I love music and I swear id do what it takes to make it my life. So I installed and wired this pioneer head unit myself.(cant find picture but it inside the jeep trust me )After all wired up and ready to rock, I needed a center consol, so I bought ammo case (as seen on this thread) and am using that as my cent consol now. I love showing people that part of my jeep was in the war. thank you army navy. ![]() ![]() I found this when I bought the jeep under a seat it was a roll cage light mount, which didn’t mean much to me till I FOUND a 4D cell MAG-LIGHT in a snow bank. I had to through it on I have used it so much. ![]() ![]() Recently I removed my tow hooks, and my lights to install a grill guard I got off Craig list for 1c note. Totally worth it. ![]() after the new grill guard i took my doors off for a little riding, and found an old bike in the woods and it had a mirror on it...so i took it and it seemed to fit in the hindge. so now its street legal. ![]() ![]() That’s just about all I have done right now. To be done in the next couple days, krylon fusion textured black over the grill guard and bumper, new tow hooks, and possibly rear light guards. So yeah ill keep posting if nothing more than to keep a track for myself.

a little recent history, my tires were slashed by some jack@#$ and it really sucked but i decided to upgrade to bigger tires while i was it.
well after all was said and done with everyhting regarding the insurance company and my parrents i got my new rubber, and i got it on my jeep. a confession,my origonal tires were 235's 75... not to big only like 28'' not the 30's i said in my signature ![]() i bought and had mounted some new meat, and yes they are 30's!!!! i bought a set of 4 bfgoodrich a/t ko's 30/9.5/15 and let me say this, the ride(of the jeep) is SO SO SO nice. i sit a little higher and i notice it. and belive me it gives the jeep a very aggressive look makeing it much more than a mall crawler. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() now all i need is a small lift(2 inches or so) and ill be a happy camper

Hey Trashman,
That's a nice Jeep. I love the color. Dont stress about making it some big,bad jeep right away. You can just do little things to make it "yours". It already looks much better with the new tires. Here is my old-man advice. Put as much effort into doing the work yourself. You will learn many valuable lessons, save money and appreciate the Jeep that much more. If you have credit cards...DONT USE THEM. I see so many people max out their cards to make a badass jeep, then have to sell it to pay off the CC company. Also, make sure the Jeep runs good and is safe before adding bling-bling. Thats just my 2 cents from my past experience and from watching others in their builds. Take it easy and enjoy the heck out of your ride. Murph

Chilli Pepper Red! Thats the way to go! I have a TJ in that same color, with the same color hardtop as well. My guess, if I had a YJ, it would be exactly the same as yours! Nice ride

Howdy guys,
A little back-story before the plan... Tires slashed (worn 28's) Replaced with bf Goodrich 30's AT K/O...to be blunt they are sexxxy tires Ok then that’s all that needs to be said. I need to replace my shocks badly... They are nearly rotted through and I think one is slowly losing compression. So im goanna have to replace them soon. My original plan was to upgrade and get a lift (2-3inches) and just get new shocks then. But that’s a little out of the question right now. $$$ issues...bills to be paid not much left over for my jeep. So instead of getting a full new lift kit I am planning on doing this. -replacing shocks with affordable/good shocks -replacing front 2 leafs with new(ish) heavy duty 6leaf leaf springs that match the rear leafs. They are stiffer and prob a little more durable. -and to give me a cheaper lift, im goanna buy a set of 1 1/4'' lift shackles for my jeep. With the new shocks and the heavy duty leafs the lift shackles should not be a problem. The 1inch lift shackles isn’t enough to screw anything up (from what I have read and heard) and they are an easy install. Ha-ha so yes. I have plan for the next week or so. Im also goanna pick up a few small things from Quadratec that I need to buy and can’t find any ware else. So yeah just figured I’d share ![]() Ill post pics ASAP

I really like that color your jeep. Nice build too. I am going through mine prett slowly right now. Just take your time and you will love it that much more. If it were me if your jeep isn't beating the teeth out of your head I think I would take a little extra time and save up the money to buy a lift kit. Like one from Rough Country. It will come with new shocks and spring along with some lift. If you buy replacement front spring and new shocks you are just about half way to a whole lift kit. The lift kit will have new bushing and everything. Just get a 2.5" lift. That would look with those BFG's too. Just my 2 cent's. Keep up the good work, it is looking good.
