No man, it wont haul *** but itll do fine wheeling. Id look into a D44 in the rear if your getting into haggard ****. Re geared itll do great. I rocked an 4.0 for years and still would have it if it didnt get totaled.

Im no mechanic and i wont try to be. So how much do you think it would cost to have it regeared? Should i pick up a "D44" in the scrapyard or look for something new?

yeah, you can pull one from a yard no problem. Just make sure it matches your current gearing. Gears can be a pita to set up, there is a guy in Denver that will do gears for $100 per axle. Thats considerably cheaper than what a shop would charge

How can I make sure it matches? Would it need to come out of another similar ZJ?

Any d44a that you get out of a zj will come out of a 96-98 with a v8 and will have 3.73 gears. It is most likely that you have 3.55s in your 4.0 unless it has tow prep or tow package. It is fairly easy to check your gear ratio. You will need to get a buddy to help, mark a spot on the drive shaft. Jack the rear of the jeep up,block the front wheels and put the trans in neutral. Have a buddy rotate the tire 1 full rotation. If the drive shaft rotates about 3.5 rotations you have 3.55s and if its about 3 3/4 rotations you have 3.73 gears.

I will do this pretty soon, thanks. If I have 3.55s and I want to swap to 3.73 would I need to change the front end as well since I have all time 4 wheel drive?

Or just have Chrysler send a build sheet. It'll be on there

Also, ignore all that joker stuff about put a mark here or it 'should' come with this.. If you want to know a gear ratio for sure pull the diff covers and look. If you don't already know, you should probably do it just to change the fluid.

Deepest you can go is 4.86 on that front axle. Find out what tire size you plan on running and go from there. I wouldnt put money into a D35 personally. D44's lack aftermarket support but its a considerately stronger axle.

Ive decided to just run my stock tire size and get a BB lift and hopefully tweak your side step design and build my own if you don't mind

Dude, id just keep that 35 an re gear it and your front if you want some more power to the wheels. That D35 will hold up fine for the wheeling it sounds like youll be doing.

You cant take the step design. IT ALL MINE :sinisterlaugh:

Yeah man thats why I started the thread so people could get something from it.
