The red YJ aka (Elmo)

*** Starting from the top. Been 3 years in the making this jeep and cannot be happier. Excited to keep transforming it into a decent rig. Skim through the boring stuff. Here are my cliff notes. Bought the jeep in the form you see below. Since 2012 I have done some frame repair, changed out stock shackles for curries, swapped the old skyjackers out for Bilsteins (best investment ever), went with 33" duratracs (2nd best investment ever), monstalined the whole tub inside and out, made custom sliders, step bars, and tube fenders, custom bumpers, stock axles for now.. not for long, various tiny personalized mods, numerous amounts of tiny maintenance and upkeep on the trans and 4.0, installed a cb, made a custom overhead console, did some nice LED light features, made custom mounts for light pods and the hi-lift jack. Everything on the jeep is made from scrap we had around the farm except the front bumper which was purchased from motobilt and I added the stinger. Also, the rear custom bumper of which a good friend made at his shop. Ended up trading my mustang in on a truck this past winter of 2014 so there will be much more wheeling to be done. Thanks for following Elmo's progress. Many more pics and updates to follow.

My 2nd jeep. and the 6th jeep in my family. 87 with a swapped in 4.0 purchased the way you see it. A friend's mom nicknamed it Elmo.. It stuck with pride. Here's the day I found it.

It used to be 2 jeeps..Now it's 4

He was asking 4300. I was undoubtably able to get it for a few hundred lower than that though body is really solid and the hard top and doors are in great shape which is really my main reason for getting it.

That's an old jeep. I don't know if I'd start a build on something that old, but I'm lazy.

Well.. I'm sort of a jeep nut. We have 6 and the one we are currently working on is a 79. So I'm no stranger to working on them.

I think that Castor needs to go buy a JK so that he can work on something new!

Once I get this paper done I'll put up the detailed pics. Took all afternoon and got her cleaned up. Getting the spare tire mounted and also put in a center counsel we had laying around. I also washed the wind jammer top too. Anyone have any good soft top conditioners/preservers/cleaners they use ?

That would be the least of my worries, but then again I am below the rust belt.

I would rather have a broke Jeep, than no Jeep at all.
