dont care for the fact that only 2 grade 8 bolts are supposed to hold the winch to the plate but if the winch company thinks it will hold 2,000 lbs i will give it a shot..at least the bracket will be a lifetime bracket and now worrys of breaking it,maybe just rip the bucket off the frame first lol.
so heres my foam padding template,,i notched it to go over the frame and be a tight fit when bolted down so hopefully it will take some stress off the bucket as well..

heres the holes i drilled in the bucket on the frame to bolt the bracket to..all bolts are 9.8 grade and i think blaine said thats like a 10 grade bolt
im only useing the one on the side of bucket "1/2 inch kinda" and the 2 on top are like 7/16,but metric..was going to drill 1 more but dont feel its needed since the leverage will all be on the bolts closer to the wheel..i think!

all painted up and ready too install.

Looks like a fun little project. Can't wait to hear how well it works

I didn't look at the write up on stu's site but I'm assuming the cable will run down to the center of the axle, pass through a pulley and back up to the frame on the other side? I'v seen one done like that before

well the suck down winch project is mounted and getting close to finished,,maybe hook the wireing up later tonight and get a pulley to weld on to the axle, then weld a link of logging chain to drivers side frame to hook the end of winch to..took about 5-6 hrs messing with this today, thankfully it seemed to turn out real good..till the test comes, and getting some winch rope on it sat hopefully

Cool. I took a look at my hood and realized I couldnt even fit that snorkel with my Karooky flares... oh well. My control arms get in tomorrow and my new belly pan should be in in a few weeks. Hoping to have my RK 3-link front done before Jeeptoberfest.

I will need to truss my rear and purchase rear control arms (got the joints only) some day... When i truss my rear we should truss that 8.8 at the same time... We can use my D44 as a ginney (sp?) pig.

By the way, I like the idea of the suck down winch. Where you gonna mount the controls? I like the S-pod idea but i hate the price tag. Something similiar above the rear view mirror to would be sweet.

went to tractor supply and picked up a champion atv contactor control for the winch today,,50 bucks, got home and wired it all up and got the wires inside and mounted the rocker switch on the shifter..till i find a switch i like better this will do..tomorrow or thursday i will make the bracket for the axle and have it finished.
left the wireing long to run under the winch so theres room for a cover..

mounted contactor on the firewall with a red ruger sticker on it.

and the only shower cap i could find..i will spray it black so you guys cant rag me so bad, hehe

not much time today but got the pulley and bracket made and welded on..was going to use this half pipe i cut in half but its only 1/8 thick so decided to go straight to the axle..
this axle is very temporary till it breaks ,and forces me to put in the other turdy five with the 4.56 gears i built a while back ,,it will get trussed and have a better spot to weld the pulley bracket on,,,in the future.

put a bolt in the pulley and cut the nub off.

pipe i was gonna use.

was gonna take pic with string in the pulley and to the frame but it burned in half when i welded it
finish it up in the am.

well everything went well this morning, except for the fact that welding in cramped spots is really a pita but what r ya 2 do.
it works so well that i think i would want it even if i had short arms just for the fact that"i can" plus it seems it would help any vehicle on a steep slow climb and would kinda "have to",,didnt get a video just yet but will tonight, but heres some pics to hold ya off..i did use it with the supplied cable but hopefully will have some synthetic line saturday..im very glad i spent the time to do this..

bent some 5/8 on my bender then finished with torch, and cut real short.

notice it doesnt touch the frame, and comes out smooth even with the feder backing there..

total money spent was;;
winch-49.99-at northern tool
champion winch controler-50.00 at tractor supply
plate i had laying around.
time..a day total if i stayed with it,,,i feel older everyday
