Thanks for the complements everyone, but it's only going to get better I promise.
I spent the whole day wet sanding, and still haven't gotten it where I want it yet. I have to quit for now, but may end up hitting it again later tonight, and make it a late night/early morning. Here's what I'm working with right now: ![]() Doesn't look like much eh? ![]() :Pimpsmiley: It's in 1000 grit finish right now, I want it in 2000 before I toutch it with a buffer, and thats all I should have to do. I haven't done anything with the tube yet, I'll start scuffing that once I get the rest where I want it, so I can get it ready for paint. |

Looks much better than the "orange" peel you had before, and that looked fairly decent, better than a maaco. (BTW, that pun was unintentional until I realized it, then I ran with it)

Lol yeah, I'm still not good enough to lay paint slick enough to leave alone(at least that I'd be ok with), and I agree, it's better than what I've seen Maaco put out.
I'd love to play a little in a heated paint booth like some of the professionals use. I was looking at the dry times, and they give two times, one for 70*- 4 hours, and another for "forced dry" @130* -30 min! sadly right now, I'm working in a shop that gets about 50-60* at night, not the best working conditions. Right now I'm having issues with the passenger side corner, because of that too(I hope thats the problem). When I got back in the shop tonight I got to looking at it and it was still kind of glossy, but just looked scratched up, where as everything else looks like it's kinda hazy, but not too scratched up. Basically looks like the scratches are below the clear, which I kind of though was the problem, like maybe it was from the 180 grit i was using to scuff up the primmer, before I started painting yesterday. Only I couldn't get them to sand out(just so long as you have enough clear coat, you can wet sand out some pretty bad sanding marks). Then I went on a hunch and pushed my thumb against it in a spot and sure enough, it stayed. The clear coat still isn't dry, more than 24 hours later It's not anything in the paint mixture, because every can I mixed, I sprayed everything with. The only thing I can think of, is maybe it's a combination of the cooler than optimal shop temps at night, and maybe I laid the clear on a little too thick on that one panel I brought it into the house garage with me tonight, it doesn't get any cooler than 65*, to see if that might help, I'll ask my Dad about it in the morning, and see what he says. We might have to try turning the salamander heater on it for a little tomorrow, and try and "force dry" it. |

Headed up to meet Rod to see what trouble we can get into.
Tie rod and Draglink should be here today. Yoke adapter for the new pinion flange came last night. Still no word from Delmarva Offroad. I'm getting pissed. Even if you have NO information, at least acknowledge my calls.

Got a little buffing done today, still have a lot left to do though, going to wait till they are on the Jeep to spray the trim, I want to be able to see how they match up to the rockers, and make sure the trim in the flares line up nice front to rear.

hotrod....you are going to cry the first time he takes that out and trashes that paint job. Rattle can black sure would have been a time saver.....

That paint looks amazing. I can't wait to see the finished product. Are you guys planning on freshening up the paint on the Jeep to help make it match???

Got the tie rod and draglink. They look good. We'll have to get them in paint still, but that's no biggie. I heard back from Mike from Delmarva. He's been out of town. It would have been nice if the voicemail indicated that instead of me just thinking he was dodging me, but it's cool. He's been good to work with aside from this. I'd still recommend him. JB still is behind with the short shafts, but should have them in another week. Here's hoping. No pics tonight, I forgot my camera. Besides, it would have just been more of me sandblasting. Quote:
![]() As for a completion date, I don't even want to talk about it. But once it's done, you'll know Jeffro. I won't accept any excuses why you can't come wheel on my inaugural run. I am hoping maybe a few more weeks. It sucks only being able to do **** on my days off. The big hold up will be the suspension/welding work. I have to coordinate a day off with Robert to get the trusses and everything welded on. The other thing that sucks is figuring out where I'm going to do the suspension at. Because I still have no SYE/rear DS, and can't get the front taken care of until I can swap the axles under there. So, the Jeep will be down as long as it takes to get the front DS built at a local shop. Then I'll just putz around in 2wd/front until I get the rear DS back from Tom Woods. Technically, I could get the measurements the same day we get the axles welded up, but that's getting a bit overzealous. I have to be able to drive the thing. Is anyone good with wiring that wants to come give me a hand? Jerry can't do anymore and I'd like to be on the street as soon as we can get the armor on/done. I hate wiring. I have all the supplies you'll need, and there's only a few more things to do. It's just a few lights. I just HATE wiring.

Thanks guys! Not done with it yet, I still need to install the sliders, so I know where to continue the black at the bottom of the corners and fenders, where they'll connect with the flares. Have to wait to do that though, I'm missing hardware here and Rod TNT is sending us more bolts. I'm going to start masking off the flares tonight for the trim on the flares and start covering up the rest of the Jeep getting it ready to spray the black as soon as I can.
