So um... Time for those fenders so you can stuff those meats under there temporarily.
Are you planning on being able to drive the Jeep almost continuously??? Looks like you are on the tight track to having minimal down time (almost like a stages build on steroids)

Still waiting on the tubes,as soon as they get in, James is going to cut me loose on them. Goal is to have them Bondo'd, in primer, fitted, and painted this weekend, James wants them on the Jeep too, but I don't think we'll have time to let them dry, wet sand them, and install them just yet.

And sadly, I can't fit the tires on the stock axles because the wheels I currently have are 15's, and the JK wheels are 17's. Aside from that, the bolt patterns don't match. Though believe me, if I knew someone with a set of wheel adapters I'd run them in the meantime. I can't wait to get those tires on the Jeep. Hell, I can't wait to be done and wheeling the Jeep. It's been so long. Too long. Anyways, front tubes should be here tomorrow or maybe the next day. Rod pretty much gave the timeline after that. Ideally, I'd like to be able to put the tubes/corners/rockers on by Sunday. I doubt that will happen, but that's what I'd like. So, there's the update. Oh, and I'm now going with TNT Customs one ton steering set up for my tie rod. They were already making my draglink for me (since it needed to be custom). Rod from TNT hooked me up. They have really taken care of me through this build, and over the last year. Aside from putting up with my almost daily calls and questions, they've managed to get me the products and support I've needed so far. They've been awesome. I'm off again starting Thursday night through Sunday. So, hopefully there will be some good progress this weekend. Stay tuned.

Ive Just been joking with you on the whole fenders and tires now thing. I have been joking around, and have been so sarcastic lately that I have even had to add it to my sig.
I am serious on the whole stages on steriods thing though. Is this your DD? Everytime my Dad and I talk about the awesome Jeeps here, he keeps stating that most guys have something different to rely on. A DD build this quick, with this magnitude of work just goes to show what good planning and time management can do.

As for the planning, you have to remember three things: 1. I am OCD. 2. I hate re-work. As in doing something once, and then doing something else that takes the place of that, or doing the same thing over again. I try to be absolutely as efficient as possible. (Hence why I am not doing the outboard shocks right now even though I already have the parts, because I'm going to get longer shocks down the road anyways.) 3. I had almost a year to figure out what I wanted to do without being able to install things that would get in the way of future plans. So, the only thing getting in the way of doing what I wanted was myself. I had a clean slate to work with so to speak since the Jeep was pretty much stock. So, I just planned everything out as best as I could, and it's been a lot of asking other people to check it over a million times as we all tried to think of different things I might have been forgetting. Rod can attest to that. There's no telling how many times I've asked him "Am I forgetting something?" Enjoy the rest of the build. Front tubes show up tomorrow. Hopefully Rod can come up and wait on UPS all day at my house for me lol.

Well here I am again, posting pics of work, in someone elses build thread, of work they haven't seen yet.
Got a late start today, after getting to my dads, he informed me that the spot welds on the fender tops wouldn't keep the body work from cracking, and needed to stitch them up a little for some added strength. James might be able to post some before pics. ![]() ![]() First bondo, I'm using bondo glass(it's kind of like bondo for fiberglass, and is a little stronger than regular bondo, because of the little hair fibers ![]() And where I'm at right now with it, I'm tired, I feel like ***, my neck has been killing me all day, and I think I might have a feever. ![]() ![]() The layers you are seeing arethe bare steel, the first two layers of bondo glass, two layers of regular bondo, and athin layer of paint to use as a guide coat, to find the rest of the low spots, as you can see, I still have a few that I'll hit in the morning. |
