Hey everyone, well, as promised, its Friday night and here are some update pictures. I was only able to work on the project for a few hours today so I got everything prepped out, and then got the first layer of fiberglass laid on today.
So I pulled the Jeep inside the shop today and pulled off the tarp, then I put down a large sheet of drop cloth so that just in case I got any resin dripped then it would be really easy to clean up, however not any even got on it.
Then I ran a layer of 18" wide aluminum foil across the center stretch, and then ran some cardboard (over the flat area) and some posterboard (over the curves) to help keep the aluminum from sagging. (The aluminum foil is to help release the fiberglass/resin from the cardboard)
As you can see in the picture from underneath, the cardboard still sagged a little bit, so I propped up some Surveyor Stakes to help keep it up. This helped a ton and made the top pretty straight and even.
Then I mixed up some resin per instruction on the can, and then laid the first layer of fiberglass. It turned out pretty well and is a good foundation for the rest of the layers.
Here is one more picture of kinda what to expect. Keep in mind the holes for the side windows will be filled in and cut out alot smaller to resemble a stock LJ top and will all look proportionate.
Sorry again that much didn't get done today. I don't have anything planned for tomorrow, and the first layer and the setup are already done so I should be able to get a lot more done tomorrow, and will post up more pics tomorrow. Thanks for looking!
