Project "VICTIMIZED" (Pic heavy build thread)

Vic·tim·ize
ˈviktəˌmīz/
verb
past tense: victimized; past participle: victimized
1. single (someone) out for cruel or unjust treatment.

Once upon a time, there was a happy fisherman...
He just needed a small vehicle to get him back and forth to his favorite fishing hole...

Enter: My very first TJ! (1997, 2.5L 5speed, on 31's)

Wasn't she Sexxxxy!!

All that chrome, and bling!
Unfortunately she developed a bad case of Death Wobble, and at the time I didn't know what it was or how to fix/cure it, so I ended up getting rid of her...
Here is my second ever TJ... (2004 2.5L 5 speed, Rubicon take offs)

I wound up with an 86 CJ7 in a horse trade... I don't remember what I gave for it but I ended up trading it for a Harley Davidson Shovel head...

I found a good deal on a 2003 Rubicon at a dealership, and I figured rather than pay 4 more years on a 4cyl TJ why not trade it in on a batter rig? So I traded my 04 4cyl TJ in on an 03 Rubicon:

I ended up with another 97 4cyl TJ in a horse trade and decided I wanted to build it up instead of tearing up my Rubicon that I used as a daily driver....

I put a crap ton of money into that 97, until it ended up being nicer and more capable than my Rubicon was...
So I ended up selling the Rubicon and daily driving the 97...
I drove the 97 up to Rausch Creek, up to Crozet, down to Corrova beach, and to Pungo and Starr Motors a couple of times...
After driving home from one place or another, hardly even able to go 55 mph without feeling like the rig was going to shake itself to pieces, I decided I wanted a tow rig.
So I bought a 2012 Nissan Titan...
Then I decided if I'm going to tow a rig it might as well be a full fledged Wonton Crawler so I gave my 97 TJ and a big heap of cash and bought this:

I sunk a few grand into changing it up so it was MY rig not the previous owners rig, but even after sinking a few grand into it there were so many things I didn't like and wanted to change... it would've been cheaper to just build it myself... Another learning experience... I decided I was going to sell it.

So I sold my tow rig, and then I needed something to drive and purchased this...
A friend of mine that helps me out with welding and gear changes and pretty much anything that requires air tools, had a Cheap truck challenge Cherocar for sale for a sweet price:

I purchased it...
Registered it....

Tried to drive it to work...

It promptly overheated on me...

I ended up putting a thermostat in it which fixed the over heating problem, but it was really sketchy to drive and handled like crap... the front axle was put together out of like 5 different kinds of jeeps and none of the parts matched... I didn't feel like dealing with it so I sold it for $500...

I bought a cheap toyota pick up from a friend of my neighbor, then traded that for a GMC 2500 4x5 and then I traded that for a 1990 YJ with a 302 V8, Coilovers, long arms, etc...

At the same time that I bought the Toyota I also bought this pretty sweet 84 CJ7:

The CJ7 had an AMC 360 cubic inch engine with Chevy fuel injection, a twin stick t-case, and the works. I added a nice front bumper, and an Engo winch, and traded it for an F350 4x4 crewcab longbed.
But for a while I had a pretty sweet collection of red, white, and blue Jeeps!

I ended up trading my Blue CJ7 for a big lifted 95 F350 4x4 crew cab long bed on 35" mickeys...
I was daily driving the Red jeep YJ...
And I ended up buying this pretty sweet 2002 TJ with only 69k miles on it:

I prolly should've kept the 2002 because it already had so much work done to it, but a friend of a friend wanted it and offered me a good price for it so I sold it...

I was daily driving a 3/4 ton YJ on coilovers with a V8 swap... it was costing me about $30 every other day in gas money... so I ended up trading it to a guy for a 2006 jeep Commander with the 5.7L hemi engine...

With leather heated seats!

So sexxxy!

Look at all this room!

Wood grain and navigation!

Right after I sold the Green 2002 TJ I also sold my white 98 Wonton TJ... and right after I sold the Wonton TJ I traded my big f350 for a 76 Corvette with only 37700 original miles on it...
So then I had a 2006 Jeep Commander that I'm currently using as a daily driver, and I had a 76 Corvette that I drive just to have fun....

But I was missing having a TJ...
Sooooooooo...

''Drumroll! please!"

I decided to purchase "Project Victimized"

Let me introduce you to her:

She looks kinda sad and lonely

Thanks! I've been going back and forth trying to figure out what I want, kinda like Goldilocks and the 3 bears... one was to small, one was to big, so hopefully this Jeep will be "Just right"

The Vette's for sale on Craigslist if you know anyone looking, lol!

Thanks! I'm just a gear head. I like building them almost as much as driving them. These are just the Jeeps I've had in the last few years, I had another YJ years ago that I don't have any pictures of, and I've had prolly 20-30 other 4x4 vehicles that I don't even have listed here. Plus several Harleys, countless sport bikes, several Mustangs, Camaro's, and Trans-ams... lol!

So here's what started this snowball down the mountain:

I bought it last Saturday off of an add on Craigslist.

This is how it came when I purchased it.

91k miles

4.0

5 speed

4" super lift complete with transfer case drop.

$2500 rear axle custom built by East Coast Gear Supply.

456 gears in rear axle.

Detroit locker in rear axle.

The front axle is stock with 307 gears.

A sprinkling of Smittybilt armor, front tube fenders, and front bumper.

33" BFG tires on black steel rims.

The Jeep was originally registered in Maryland being as it was previously owned by one of our fine young Air Force service members. So I needed to take it and get a Virginia safety inspection.

It failed badly!

This is the list of stuff the inspector told me I have 2 weeks to fix in order to make it pass inspection:

Rejected for:

Tail lights not DOT approved. (LightDot leds)

No 3rd brake light.

No red reflectors on sides in rear.

No amber reflectors on sides in front.

No front side marker lights.

No front sway bar.

No rear sway bar.

Wipers torn.

Headlamp bulbs installed incorrectly.

Headlamps not DOT approved.

Front tires are more than 4" outside of fender line.

Rear tires are more than 4" outside of fender line.

So, I was pretty much hosed by the state inspector, and was going to have to spend more money than I planned to get this Jeep road legal...

I started thinking about things, and one thing led to another, and then I ended up being home sick from work two days this week, with nothing better to do then look at Jeep parts and make an insane build plan....

And then after many beers my credit cards came out and I started ordering parts.

Here is the build plan so far:

Bought from friends:
New headlights: (purchased LED truck light headlights from a friend, already have them, awaiting install)
Winch mounting plate: (purchased used from a friend, awaiting install)
Aftermarket rear sway bar and end links, factory style: (Purchased used from a friend, awaiting install)

Bought from Undercover Fab:
Undercover Fab Ultra high clearance tummy tuck, 3/8" aluminum: ( Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Undercover Fab 1/4" aluminum engine guard skid: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Novack cable shifter for NP231: (purchased, awaiting delivery)

Bought from East Coast Gear Supply:
New Dana 30 high pinion complete axle assembly: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
New OE Spicer ball joints: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Upgraded yolk to u-bolt style: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Finish: Flat black: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Artec "C" gussets: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
ARB 30 spline air locker: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Artec Dana 30 axle truss: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
New upper control arm bushings, factory stock: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Used/reconditioned knuckles: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
RCV 30 spline axle shafts: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
456 gears: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Heavy duty lower control arm brackets: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
New timken unit bearings: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
Labor and installation of all parts above to build a complete axle assembly: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)

These parts were all ordered from Savvy offroad. (Gerald looked out for me on the prices just like he said he would. email him for the best deals!)
(5) Raceline beadlock rims RT233 natural aluminum with polished aluminum locking rings: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
(4) Ranch RS9000XL shocks: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
1 set of stainless steel license plate bolts with built in lights: (Purchased, awaiting delivery)
1 4" lift, with Savvy, aluminum double adjustable control arms, 4" Currie springs, Front and rear Currie track bars, Currie bump stop kits front and rear, and front Anti rock sway bar.

So this is what I've decided on so far... it's 30 days out for the axle to be delivered, and 5-6 weeks out on the Raceline Beadlocks... The Undercover Fab order is "Being processed" for the last few days with no change in status so it might be a while for that to get here as well....
The liftkit, shocks, trackbars, bumpstops, front swaybar, and license plate lights have already shipped and are scheduled for delivery Christma eve.

I still need: (to pass inspection)
Fender flares for the rear to pass inspection... Thinking either Smittybilt or Metal Cloak.
Front fender flares to pass inspection, also thinking either Smittybilt or Metal cloak.
Rear tail lights to pass inspection... thinking factory stock with an led 3rd brake light.
A new set of windshield wipers to pass inspection.
Some kind of sidemarker/reflectors to pass inspection.

Then I need: (To complete the build)
Slip yolk eliminator kit.
Rear CV driveshaft.
5 new tires 37" flavor.
Rear bumper.
Rear tire carrier.
Roll cage upgrades.
Suspension seats.
5 point harnesses.
Fire extinguisher.
GPS
Cargo restraint/orginization set up.
Gas tank skid.

I'm sure I'll keep thinking of more as I go along... lol!
