Project Thug Life

So I bought an LJ in the fall of last year. For the most of this past winter I've been working on it as time allows. I'm at a midway point where I will drive it through the summer and then start back into it in the fall.

Why "thug life" you ask ?? You be the judge

Used to be I took lots of pictures to post online. These day's I take pictures less and work more (less time to work ). But I'll review as best as possible:

2004 LJ
Stock 4.0L with 42RH auto

Replaced stock axles with Rubi Dana 44s, lockers and pumps.
Replaced stock tcase with Rubi 241OR case.
Replaced stock skid with one I built, 1" tuck from stock.
Replaced stock rear suspension with custom long arm setup:
  • Artec rear truss
  • Artec link brackets
  • Barnes 4wd rear coilover towers
  • RuffStuffSpecialties 1.25" heims/spacers/jamnuts
  • Barnes4wd tube inserts
  • 2" lower links 1/4" thickness
  • 1.75" uppers .125" thickness

Genright Comp 19g tank, transferred all evap lines over to it.
Reversed brake calipers to give more room for coilovers

Other items include:

Poison Spyder rear tire carrier/bumper
Poison spyder bumper to frame brackets/reinforcement
JCR offroad front high line fenders with inner fender liners
Summit Racing hood pins holding the hood that I cut to fit fenders
JCR offroad rear fender flares
I built the rear crusher corners from blanks I measured and had cut/bent, then welded on flares
Generic air intake to replace stock air box that wouldn't fit with highline fenders.
Currie Antirock

20x12 Moto Metal 970's
37x13.50x20 Toyo Open Country MTs

That is pretty close to the majority of it. Again....don't have as many pics as some who build theirs so if you want to see something I'm happy to try and accommodate. I'm not a professional welder, nor claim to be. Just a guy with a few tools who likes getting away from my IT day job. Cheers !!

And how it stands now. Waiting on the slider blanks from the sheet metal shop and hopefully get those on soon. Few other small things I'll button up as the summer goes on. For those keeping up...the last pic with the black TJ, I built that one last year for someone else

Cheers !

Love the way it turned out. The wheel/tire size is a nice look with those fenders.

I like it. I'm usually not a fan of 20" rims, but it actually looks pretty proportionate.

It was definitely a decision I contemplated several times before hitting the "buy" button
