Thanks !

I usually wheel at different places in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and all the other Emirates.

Back to Rust Bucket This week. I hope that the project starts moving again very soon.

If you read through the past 17 pages, you will know that the two main things that are holding the project:

1- the knocking issue.
2- the overheating issue.

I came to believe that the second issue is the cause of the first. the engine is basically running lean, and that is why it runs hotter. To investigate this in a more scientific way. I decided to install a wide band sensor.

Having said that, I hate installing gauges and I want to keep my truck as stock looking as possible. Install an AFR now, air tank pressure later, few other gauges after than, and I will end up with a interior of a boy racer!

Therefore, I decided to only install a single gauge. That single gauge should give me all current and future information I need. I shopped around, placed some orders, and this is what I received Yesterday.

After a brief unboxing, it looks like this:

As you can see, I ordered PLX DM-100 and could of sensor modules with it.

The main unit reads directly from the OBD II. This allow me to read some useful information out of the engine's PCM. Things like that exact engine temperature, trims, error codes and many more will be easily accessible.

Having said that, the PCM can only support Narrow band data. Therefore I bought this:

The sensor will provide the DM-100 with Wide Band AFR information.

One additional thing I bought was an SM-FluidPressure sensor module.

why do I need that ? We will see later!

If the PCM will only read narrow band sensors, then why did you get a wide band sensor? I've heard that a lot of people have had issues running any other sensors besides OEM Jeep sensors.

It will be interesting, but it will also take a long time to complete. I'm thinking about a minimum of 1 year build time.

Sorry for the confusion.
The Wide Band O2 sensor will not be feeding the information to the PCM. It will be feeding it to the DM-100. This will allow me to read the Air Fuel Ratio from the DM-100 and do the necessary adjustments accordingly.

This is a high level diagram of how things should look like.

Some updates.

Here are the results of the fuel pressure test:

Once in Operation Temperature, the truck stays between 48 and 49PSI.
The gauge needle is very stable.
When turned of, the pressure almost imediatly goes down to 45 PSI. It took 7 minutes for the pressure to go down from 45 PSI to 20 PSI.

So, Can we now eliminate any fuel pressure problems ??

What happened here? A guy in my club had the same problem with his stroker. He put another cam in and fixed it.
