I tried to push for the 2012 race, but after laying out the build plan then factoring in the trip cost (another $4k), I just couldn't make it happen in 6 months time. If I was still in Colorado, there would be no question about it.

So I'm building in that direction and I hope to have one or two more endurance races completed between now and the 2013 KOH mod race.

The wife wants me to go for broke....

I was talking to her about V8 swaps, like a 5.3 similar to her Hummer, and she said "don't you want more power than that? Can you fit a Viper engine in there?"

Well, at least she's not opposed to an upgrade. Don't get excited though, I've got a list 10 pages long before I get to an engine swap.

Teaser shot of the TJ-

I'm not sure what I am going to do, possibly repaint the whole jeep? Paint the corners black and eat the $100? Bleh. It's not fully put together, but it gives you a kind of sneak preview:

Looks good, here is the problem though. Its not that your old paint is the problem. Its when that place paints **** for that cheap. They dont use paint codes to find the proper color. They look at a chip book and find something close. Then they see if they have some white left over from another job. Spray that on there and charge you 100 $. You could have them sprayed by a real body shop. Or just paint them black.

There are different kinds of body shops out there. Some just go for the quick buck, some would repaint them till you were very happy for what you originally paid.

If you throw in 1 tons and a 5.3 does it disqual you from your race series?

I vote for a full on build rather than stitching together part after part. Sell the cage, axles, powertrain, and wheels then throw in the powertrain of your choice and the drivetrain to match. Spider 9s and a massaged 5.3

Honestly man i would paint them black, it looked great with the other corners being black. Splits up the white with a nice contrast IMO.

No, if I just run one locker, I can stay in B Class with a V8 engine swap as long as I only have two vehicle supporting tuneable shocks (coilovers, etc). You can run any axle combo.

I already spoke to Spidertrax about their axles and Ruffstuff about theirs- Spidertrax had the most blinging packages ranging up to $14k for just the front , but in the end, Ruffstuff has an option I'm looking at that would be a Hi9/60 hybrid that should be perfect for me. I have to get the paint thing figured out, get a baby seat mount installed, then I'll start looking at the safety upgrades and front axle options.

Ruffstuff axle (borrowed pic):

That would be sweet on your rig. Just when you think you have it figured out...you don't. I have a looooooong way till I get my jeep to the way i really want it.

I really like how the new rear armor and the flares turned out but I would spray them black. I like the contrast with the black and white. As for axles have you looked into Dynatrac 60's? http://www.dynatrac.com/products/tj/ProckRock60.html

I think I have looked into every 60 option out there, this seems to be the best option for the direction this jeep is going.

Your thoughts on how you would build your ruffstuff hi9/60? Curious?

I called and spoke with ruffstuff about their axles and there's no doubt they are nice. Priced very competitive as well. I spoke with a guy on pirate4x4 who builds axles (letzroll) and scrolling through his pics and reading reviews has me convinced that he would definitely be someone to consider when ordering axles. He builds some really neat 9/Sterling rears as well that would be worth a glance.

I like the idea of a 9 because you can weld all over it and not worry about preheat/post heat and pulling the pumpkin is easy, don't have to take apart your steering to access it.
