Decided to get a head start on my Christmas present setup since it isn't arriving until Thursday now (synthetic winch line ).
My Warn winch mount has been faded for a loooong time now and my winch box was even worse. So while I had nothing planned for the weekend, now was as good a time as any to touch them up.
Here you can see the discoloration:
Sooooo.... apparently my countersunk winch bolts (holds the winch to the mount) are completely seized. So there will be no taking the winch off the mount . This means a little extra taping and masking, no big deal.
Unbolted, taped, and ready to paint:
Next up was prepping the control box for paint:
Painted and remounted! Now to strip the old cable:
Since I can't get the winch off the mount, I can't replace the fairlead bolts. Problem. Poison Spyder uses smaller bolts than the roller fairlead, so I had to drill out the hawse mouting holes:
Hawse fairlead mounted up, just waiting on the new line!

It's amazing what a little touch up can do. Looks good! BTW, what synthetic line are you getting?

Save yourself a cut line and open up that hole on the mount at the sides. Take the hawse off and grind that back and smooth it with the dremel. At severe side pulls your line will rub that corner before hitting the hawse and will cause a nice pinch point perfect for slicing through synthetic rope. Ask me how I know

"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.

We build these things to tear them up, right?
2010 was one one of my most active years yet when it came to hitting the rocks! The wife and I got in 23 trail runs in the TJ (with the Hummer running 5 of those). That includes four different states-
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Kentucky
- Utah
Breakage of note included a driver's side alloy short shaft, a lower control arm mount ripping off, and a Currie tie rod end.
Anyway, I thought I would share just a sample of pics from a great year of crawling!

I love 2010 montage of off-roading. Can't wait to see what you have in store for 2011.

Sweet Pics! When in august did you go to Harlan, KY? I was there for the ECORS competion with my quad and bike. Awesome place!
On another note... how do you like the TNT Zyros rear? Im looking to get some hylines in the rear to match the front soon.

Thanks!
We were there for the ECORS as well. I was a co-driver for my brother-in-laws A class rig. We arrived on Friday and wheeled the afternoon, raced on Saturday, then wheeled on Sunday before heading home.
I like the TNT Zyros, but one of mine arrived with a dent in it. It is pretty obvious with the black paint, but what ever. TNT said it must have happened during shipping, so they are not at fault. So now I'm stuck with it.

Trust me, I would love to run those, but I would need like 3 weeks to a month to do it. I'm almost limited to the Eastern half of the country... besides the occasional trip to Moab .

I cant imagine riding in one of those rigs! It would just be crazy. I was watching by the waterfall where that guy was upside down the whole race. Pretty crazy stuff. I was there Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and left Sunday morning. Did you camp at the park?
I got their Hylines up front, and they have good customer service and things so I think I will go with them one of these days. Did you get it shipped by UPS?
