KA-BOOM says the driver's side axle shaft.
I was wheeling like an idiot on an obstacle I refused to give up on and sure enough, I snapped the axle shaft clean in half. The worst part was it was just the second obstacle of the day.
A buddy and I went out to The Gulches this weekend for some nasty rock crawling. Nasty because it is the south and it rained...... which means every rock was covered in mud. It was slick and sloppy and zero traction all day. I blew an axle shaft, he blew an o-ring, so we both took our lumps. The best part? I parked the jeep and the wife and I wheeled the Hummer the rest of the day! It did awesome for being a great white rhino. Fun day all in all.
Broke the axle shaft here (note the angle, mixed with slick tires):
Got half way up, slid over to the side and the BANG!:
Couple of shots from a rock playground before I broke:

Thats last pic is pretty cool. I like the H3 skid right on the front...almost made for these opportunistic picture moments!

Thanks man! We actually "made" that. It is the stock skid from an '07 (ours is an '08) that I trimmed, sanded, and then body matched painted.
It's the wife's favorite mod.

that last pic actually makes the H3 look cool. I think you're one of the few that can make the H3's look beast

Bummer on the shaft...especially early in the day! Any pics yet? Didn't know if you pulled it out yet or not.
The pic with Mel is sweet! Looks like you guys are getting to have fun on the trails...I'm jealous. Still trying to figure out what I want to do suspension wise so I can get back up and going!

I needed a 12 point 1/2" socket to get the axle shaft out, so I picked up one last night and can hopefully get the shaft out today. We'll see what the damage looks like. I have a spare in the garage, so I hope to have this back up and running by this afternoon.

It is a mini version of mine! His jeep was bone stock, I moved into the neighborhood and now his wife is ready to kill me!
We put a 4" lift on it, then as I have been upgrading to new parts, he has purchased a chunck of my old parts. Since most of my stuff only lasts a year on the rig, it's always in pretty good condition.
