Very cool. Tastefully done...

My Jeep was running hot on the highway as well. I took my old brass radiator to a shop, had it rebuilt. At the same time, I replaced the belts, hoses, thermostat, cleaned out the block and heater core, replaced the water pump with a quality mopar, (Hey, it lasted 20 years?) and bought a new AC Delco fan clutch. Pretty much a new cooling system. It's not really the highway so much, but I use my Jeep at Dumont Dunes a lot. Sand dunes will find a weak cooling system, and they did.

I don't like globbing on RTV. I use only a thin layer of aviation gasket sealer applied carefully with a q tip.

I know there are all kinds of threads about electric fans, and how fans will never come on on the highway. I respectfully disagree with some of it. The clutch fan will come on whenever a predetermined amount of heat is absorbed by the thermo spring in front. (My fan will engage and make all kinds of noise while climbing a steep mountain road here in the summer. It's called 110 degrees!)
And, besides idle, there is no way I can imagine an electric fan moving the amount of air the clutch fan will move when locked in. I tested it and it sucks my shirt through the grill and into the radiator at only a thousand RPMs or so.

Anyway, I know you guys know more than me. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

I agree with every word. Exactly why I'm ruining a mechanical fan on mine.

I was headed to the exhaust shop this morning to have my exhast tweeked and I noticed it creeping up. I did not try the heater.

Buckwild I don't think it is air I have no problems any other time, only on the freeway and it is very consistant not erratic.

I'm going to call novak in the morning, they wanted me to report back to them after I ran it without the winch. They told me that they have seen this problem from time to time with the YJ ( I'm like WTF they should put that next to the $800 price tag on the fan rad combo!) and were thinking of adding some air dams around the rad to force the air through the radiator,
What ever happened with this? We're you able to get is sorted out?

I ran it without the winch and like you said, no change. So I pressured it up with a cooling system pressure tester and it bleed down like three times I added coolant each time and it finally quit taking coolant. So it did have air in it, I would have bet money I got all the air out. Anyhow I drove it and 210 on the Hwy and 195 around town. It was 210 around town, I have-not put the winch back on yet though. Thanks for the input guys.

I finally pulled a 5.3, 4l60e, harness and computer out of a wrecked 2000 for 1000 even on Sunday. The PO died of a heart attack behind the wheel, and crashed the pickup

Wish I was in NC... I'd be all over that lol. Then I'd have 4 running 6.0s in the garage. Well ones a 6.4, but it was a 6.0
