project new bumper (stinger)
well..... i finally got started on my newest bumper. and this time... i took pictures and made sure i documented the entire thing cuz i had so many questions about my last one. so here it goes!Phase 1: get the items needed for the bumper COMPLETE Phase 2: build said bumper COMPLETE Phase 3: make said bumper look nice COMPLETE Phase 1 began when i was ordering parts. i got the trail stinger from http://www.jeeptubes.com ![]() and the front bumper mounting brackets from http://www.rokmen.com ![]() sorry the pictures are sideways. and i would recommend these products to anyone!! the quality is fantastic and i couldn't be happier with them! then i had to find a way to mount everything. this came down to me gettin some 4" channel iron. 3/16" thick and 1/4" thick at the corners. very sturdy ![]() ![]() i chose 4" because it fit perfect into the mounting brackets and made spots for some nice welds ![]() ![]() ![]() we then realized the winch plate wouldnt work right so we kinda curved the edges to fit in between the brackets. ![]() if you ever start workin on/changin a bumper and you need to get the winch out of your way without unhookin it... hook it to your grill ![]() ![]() ![]() got it lookin good ![]() then i realized the back side of the winch plate needs to be held down. more weldin needed. used a 3/16" strip ![]()

now time to work on some d-rings. my last ones were weak and not beefy enough for me. so cranked it to 11 and made me some 1" thick shackle mounts with some 3/4 d-rings. i swear it took longer to drill thru the mount than it did to make the whole bumper!!! haha
![]() BEEFY!!!! ![]() ![]() testing the fit ![]() decided to take a quick break and thought i should show yall my nuts... ![]() ![]() back to work.. made some end caps for the bumper ![]() ![]() test fit with endcaps and winchplate ![]() started on the stinger. i didn't wanna just cut the angle and weld it to the front. seems like it would just snap so i cut a hole and slid the stinger into the bumper to weld from both sides. this took a good bit of work to get the angle that i wanted but now its really sturdy. ![]() ![]() got it welded and put on ![]() ![]() ![]() tomorrow once i wake up i will be out into the shop. from start to finish today was 8 hours. tomorrow i will put a small brace on the stinger and then start the bondo work. jeez..... i hate bondo.
