project new bumper (stinger)

 well..... i finally got started on my newest bumper. and this time... i took pictures and made sure i documented the entire thing cuz i had so many questions about my last one. so here it goes!

Phase 1: get the items needed for the bumper COMPLETE

Phase 2: build said bumper COMPLETE

Phase 3: make said bumper look nice COMPLETE

Phase 1 began when i was ordering parts. i got the trail stinger from http://www.jeeptubes.com
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSC00049-1.jpg

and the front bumper mounting brackets from http://www.rokmen.com
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00050.jpg

sorry the pictures are sideways. and i would recommend these products to anyone!! the quality is fantastic and i couldn't be happier with them!:2thumbsup:

then i had to find a way to mount everything. this came down to me gettin some 4" channel iron. 3/16" thick and 1/4" thick at the corners. very sturdy:thumbsup:
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00041.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00042.jpg

i chose 4" because it fit perfect into the mounting brackets and made spots for some nice welds
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00044.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSC00049-2.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00051.jpg

we then realized the winch plate wouldnt work right so we kinda curved the edges to fit in between the brackets.
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00047.jpg

if you ever start workin on/changin a bumper and you need to get the winch out of your way without unhookin it... hook it to your grill :hahaha:
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00046.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00045.jpg

got it lookin good
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSC00048-2.jpg

then i realized the back side of the winch plate needs to be held down. more weldin needed. used a 3/16" strip

now time to work on some d-rings. my last ones were weak and not beefy enough for me. so cranked it to 11 and made me some 1" thick shackle mounts with some 3/4 d-rings. i swear it took longer to drill thru the mount than it did to make the whole bumper!!! haha
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSC00053-2.jpg

BEEFY!!!!
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00055.jpg

testing the fit
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00056.jpg

decided to take a quick break and thought i should show yall my nuts... :hahaha:
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSC00054-2.jpg

back to work.. made some end caps for the bumper
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00057.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00058.jpg

test fit with endcaps and winchplate
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00060.jpg

started on the stinger. i didn't wanna just cut the angle and weld it to the front. seems like it would just snap so i cut a hole and slid the stinger into the bumper to weld from both sides. this took a good bit of work to get the angle that i wanted but now its really sturdy.
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00062.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00061.jpg

got it welded and put on
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00065.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00064.jpg
http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/DSC00066.jpg

tomorrow once i wake up i will be out into the shop. from start to finish today was 8 hours. tomorrow i will put a small brace on the stinger and then start the bondo work. jeez..... i hate bondo. then its off to wally world for some rustoleum satin black to make it look good!!:2thumbsup:

the shackle mounts are cut thru and welded all the way away front and back  this thing is total beef all the way around :p i'm doin the bondo work right now. thats why im on here.... i hate bondo and i'm tryin to spend as little time as possible handling it lol

hoot20 07-23-2009 10:13 AM
