Looks close. I'll know once I get it raised up and closer to its final position. I'll mock up some tube to check. The higher I can raise the drivetrain, the better the shaft angle will be with regards to hitting the pan. Plus, we clocked the TC away from the pan a little so that will help too.

On my buggy, I run a long spline front shaft turned around with the splines up top. That gives me a solid shaft 1.625" in diameter running along the tight fit area.

Just about finished with the skid..

1 3/4"x.120" DOM skinned with 3/16"..

Gave you some adjustability in the tranny mount in case you want to slide over to the driver's side a bit..

Cut groove in the plate to stitch weld along the tubes...

Ordered my fuel pump today. Walbro 255 inline. Brake lines should be here tomorrow, and the cam should be installed on Friday. I got my coil packs and brackets in the mail, but they won't bolt up to my valve covers. Probably going to fab up some sort of adapter.

Got a bit done today:

Tear down for the camshaft replacement:

Front cover removed, timing chain about to come out

The Ford guy said we "needed" to take the top end apart, so we did. (Was more of a just in case we dropped a lifter into the oil pan)

If I didn't tell you, you'd never know there was a Zo6 camshaft in there!! Didn't get any pictures of it going in, had my hands full.

Finally finished. Lots of luck later, we start the re-assembly

Got her all back together

The Ford guy's baby.... The Power Brake Booster "made to fit" a CJ5. Well, he was going to make it fit one way or another. He got it on there after much grinding and drilling later

As is:

Going back tomorrow to finish. Or at least, finish what we can. Going to try to mount the fuel pump, mount the coil packs (PITFA), install extended brake lines (PITFA), and the big project, making the radiator / e-fan fit! I'm positive there's enough room between the grille and water pump, but mounting it all will definitely prove to be one hell of a challenge. The fan is from a Lincoln Mark VIII, supposedly pushes the most CFM of any factory produced e-fan. It's about an inch wider than the fins of the radiator, and the perfect height for the radiator. Going to do some cutting / pull a monkey out of my *** to make it work.

Wish me luck!

Spent most of the day working on making the radiator / e-fan fit.

Mocking it up:

Mounted the radiator and started cutting the shroud:

Checking clearances:

Got her done!

Final shot:

Also installed extended brake lines. Pretty sure the old ones were from 1980. :barf:

That should be all for a little while. I ordered a fuel filter / regulator today when I got home. That should be the last part of the fuel system I need. Then I'll head over to a place called Hampton Rubber and get them to make me some brand new fuel lines. I'm about 98% positive the stock lines can't handle the 58 psi needed to keep the motor alive.

Still need to figure out the power steering. Not sure if I want to spend the big bucks for a PSC Motorsports box or not. I know I'm going 1 ton and 37s eventually, but I'm just not sure if I want to buy this box now. I might decide to do hydro assist later on down the road, and then I'll have this PS box here damn near brand new and needing to get rid of it. What do you guys think I should do? Check back to the first post on my build sheet to see if I've got too much or too little. Thanks

Also need to figure out the clutch system. Right now it's set up for a mechanical clutch, but I'm not sure if I want to keep that. I'll more than likely use it just to get me by until I can figure out a way to plumb a hydraulic set up. Had to remove the stock master cylinder for the brake booster to fit, so that was another reason to get rid of the hydro clutch. Open to suggestions!

Need to buy a starter / alternator. Been talking to a local place called Browning's. They make high output alternators, and gear reduction starters, so I may have struck gold on this one! If they're cheaper than Mean Green then that's what I'm going with. If not, then I'm finding and calling a Mean Green distributor.

Other than that, I'm pretty possitive all I need to do is get the wiring harness in there. Not going to be fun! That thing is frickin massive. I think I might have to buy new valve covers to bolt my coil packs to... Either that or find somewhere else to mount them and pick up a relocation kit. I know they are made, but I have yet to come across any. Before I start driving this thing, I'm going to get a dyno and tune. And that's DEFINITELY not going to be cheap.

Andy, for your steering, definitely go hydro assist.

I'll be doing my set-up for about 120 bucks (using my stock box) However, you could easily upgrade the box and pump for relatively cheap.

I got my hydro cylinder through surplus center (8" stroke, 1.5" bore) for about $90, then having the lines made at a local hydro shop for about $20.

Can I put in a hydro assist box now and just not install the ram till I'm ready?
