Project Buttercup

Alright. So i got this jeep in July, and changes are already being made. I figure its time to start a build thread to keep up with everything in a somewhat neat and chronological order.

I got my first jeep about 3 years ago. It was a black 2004 Wrangler Rocky Mountain Edition. Did some little mods such as lights and a skid and stuff but nothing major done to it. Drove it for 3 years then handed it down to my brother. Then, this summer I got a yellow 2004 Wrangler Columbia Edition. And so it begins...

Specs:
66k miles
6 cylinder
auto
30/35 axles
soft top
half doors
2" bb
31" tires

Basically bone stock except for the small lift. As far as i could track down from the PO, the jeep was originally owned by a college aged girl. She drove it mainly to and from college, putting on roughly 50k miles over time. The PO bought it about a year ago cause she always wanted a jeep. However, she said it frightened her and wasnt safe (she was a very small lady), and she decided to sell it. When i picked it up, it looked brand new off the lot. Always been garage kept, soft top in absolute perfect shape. No damage whatsoever. Never been offroad. The undercarriage was clean enough to eat off.

Here are some pics of the jeep right when i got it parked with what is now my brothers:

Immediately i rewired the stereo (PO did a crap job...), painted bezels black, killed milk jugs, and build a rack on the garage wall for jeep doors and top components (I already have a lift in roof for the black jeeps hardtop).

Then while messing around i found that the console sub was working, just disconnected. I hooked it up. Then i found out why it was disconnected... UPGRADE! Also got on some KC's on the windshield brackets. Hand painted the letters yellow to match.

Since it didnt have any good rear tow attachments... i put on some good rear tow hooks securely mounted to the frame. Turned out fantastic. Also took it for a few spins on the beach.

Finally it was time to start making preparations for the winch i had sitting in my room since last Christmas... I started by setting up the in-cab controls. Wired from the solenoid box with a cut up 3 prong extension cord. Big red master kill switch with light, and double bump momentary for in or out. Then i made a custom front license plate holder for the fairlead rollers. Metal was from an old computer power supply box i flattened out with the persuasion of a hammer. Maglight clips on back. Very good result.

Then i wired the solenoid for the winch under the hood. Mounted with an L Bracket on the existing bolt. Extended wires down and through the grill. Now just waiting on the bumper... hmm...

Now im back at college for the year and dont have my jeep with me... The bumper came in the mail finally and is home waiting to be installed... Now dont hate on the fact its smitty. I got it at an incredibly low price so i figured ill run it with the winch till i can get the rockmen. Also, i need to replace the front track bar bushing when i get home. Its all worn out and making slop in the wheel... Hopefully ill get to it when im home around thanksgiving...

I'm going home this weekend to install the new bumper, finish wiring the winch, and replace the axle side track bar bushing. Many pics to follow soon.
