Project 60th Anniversary: First Jeep build

Few months ago I was finally able to purchase a 60th anniversary wrangler. Bone stock with only 100k on the odometer. Can't wait to get started

I've got one of those that looked just like that (except for the wheels) when I got it just a few years ago, but mine already had 180k on it. That's cool you found one with such low mileage.

Those are going to look good. Decided on tires yet?

You are going to love that. Looking forward to see what else you do to it!

Thanks! For tires I'm thinking BF KM2's 295/75r/16 wish I went to 16x10 wheels but couldn't pass up the deal on the 16x8s. Will buy 35's down the road after rear end build.

Got the LED bar today but brackets didn't show up for some god awful reason. So I'll start the wiring, install switch and clean everything up so all I'll have to do is some minor adjustments when brackets arrive.

Installed wiring. Waiting to install metalcloak fenders before I fab up a relay panel for other acc.

Bar is very bright and wire harness in kit is very clean and heat shrinked with weather pack connectors. UPS still has not showed up with brackets. So I went around and loosened bolts to see if any trouble with removal or breakage. Best luck I've had all week all came out with a breeze.

Finally installed light bar. Used Rigid mounts and ran into a issue with width of light bar being too short, made 3/8" spacers on each side of light with aluminum 1" round stock. Waiting for paint to dry took the longest part of install. Happy happy happy!

Looks good! You'll enjoy playing with that at night. One day I'll get one too.

I need to get this thing lifted! But have a few more things to pan out before the LA install. Looking for a 8.8 this weekend at local junk yard.

Found frame rot the other day while I was sizing things up for 8.8 rear and lift install! Depressing! But good news is I found a 98 frame that is a true central California jeep. Not even a rust spot on it, just a few burn marks from engine fire. 8.8 will be put on the back burner till fall with hopes of coil overs. Wish me luck!

I'll snap some more pictures of carnage shortly.

Picked up a frame Friday. I cut off lower CA mounts and hit whole frame with wire wheel. Now just waiting for my long arm kit so I can install new belly up and hardware before I start disassembly of the jeep.

Close up of CA removal. Only had one cut off wheel left! Only was able to get 2 front ca mounts off before I had to make a run to welding supply for more 4.5" cut off wheels and finish disk.

Been a while since I updated. So here we go...
Two weeks ago I started tear down. Removed hood, cross supports for radiator. Removed left and right fenders, drained coolant and pulled radiator and front grill assembly. I evacuated a/c system with machine at my shop before project started. Disconnected all connectors for engine harness and all ground cables. Removed windshield, hardtop and all seats broke one seat bolt due to rust. Removed tcase linkage and removed center console.
Removed all body bolts with no broken bolts! Used cherry picker to pull cab off frame, I used chain and the large seat bolts as anchor.
