Plain Jane '00 XJ slower build
8 Attachment(s)
This will be a very slow build as time and cash will likely go to other projects first. I will post a few pics asap.

She is a Very Plain Jane. Manual windows and door locks, no window tint, white 2000, 2 door abused XJ. 4.0, auto, 231, Dana 30LP x Dana 35 open/ open. A PO installed BB, spacers & extended shackles. Factory style tow hooks front & rear.

Cut & Fold quarters are all cut, no fold. Fender well pinch seams are flattened. Hood and fenders have been modified due to a lack of hood latch cable.

First up after a day or two with the HP Washer are hood latch repairs, replace the front fenders, patch in the quarters, replace the fugly bumpers, repair rusted & dented rockers and cash permitting a decent 3 - 3.5 lift.

The hood release cable and extended front bumper mounting plates came in this week. Today I ordered weld through D ring mounts & weld through flush mount receiver hitches for front and rear bumpers. When I get back next week I'll order some 5 x 2 steel tubing. Then it will be cut & weld time!

I got back from the beach today, the brown santa truck had left a box from competition 4x4 had arrived! My weld through flush mount 2" receivers and weld through 1" D ring mounts have arrived!!

I saw numerous XJ's & ZJ's in the Lewes to Dewey Beach, DE area with various stages of lift/ tires/ off road equipment, but no JF decals!!

And it begins!
I took off the grill, head lights, markers and header panel and started cleaning the rust stains from a over heating situation from the PO. Both front fenders are trash as is the OE bumper. PO had installed front tow hooks, they will be for sale along with the tow hook support brackets. The unibody frame rails appear untouched. The LH front fender support is bent as well as some of the mounts. So far only a few of the small torx sheet metal screws have snapped, one will need drilled and tapped.

I should have both fenders off today. I'll do some more cleaning of the rust stains and grease. The PO had flattened the pinch welds in the wheel wells and they look good to an untrained eye. I'll clean as much rust as possible, use paintable seam sealer, prime and coat with POR-15/ under coat. I'll also try to straighten out some of the bent/ twisted metal.

I am trading some Mustang stuff for decent fenders, hood latch cross rod and other parts. I will cut the "new" fenders for clearance and likely re-use the fender flares for now.

Next up will be the front bumper. I took my Lincoln Mig in for repairs, hopefully there will be enough left in the budget for some steel!

Thank You!
I sprayed it down with engine cleaner, half hour later I hit it with a little electric pressure washer.

The body isn't horrible, worst dent is the drivers door frame & rocker. That will need pulled.

I did pull out the damaged front LH fender mount today.

I also straightened all the brackets.

Good luck on the build. I am doing something very similar, but my body is in much better shape. I will follow!

Yes, time has taken it's toll. Bad back, partially torn ACL, MCL & LCL and I smoke and drink too much...
Oh, the Jeep. I traded a '94 Mustang for it that had A LOT more rust, every body panel was either dented or rusty, needed all new steel brake lines, tires, rear rotors and would not pass PA Inspection.
The Jeep is inspected and runs/ drives great. And it has a IPod dock!

:cheers2: Have fun with your XJ! Pics?

Lookin good so far! Very similar to the one we picked up for my GF

PeteNnewburg 08-15-2013 10:13 AM

That looks to be in pretty good shape! I am sure she will enjoy it!

My alternator seized today. I'm researching upgrade swaps. I've found a 160 & 200 amp alt's on eBay.

Friday I picked up a 124 amp alternator, hood latch cross rod, bell crank and rod spring.
Last night the guys I got the XJ from came up for a visit. They brought the original 8.25 (needs spider gears, it will get Aussie locker), fuel tank skid plate and a bunch of other goodies.
