PJ's ZJ Build

So i picked this 93 ZJ with the I6, 42RE, NP242 for $1000. She was in rough shape. Been sitting with both front windows busted out for about a year. Even tho it was under cover it was wet and moldy inside. But ran and shifted good.

So I took a trip too the local pick and pull. I picked leather seats out of a 97 limited, door panels, passenger side hood hinge, and front windows out of a 93 limited. Full set of 19# Ford 5.0 injectors. Also picked up a empty HP Dana 30 housing out of a 96 XJ all for $350

Took simple green, carpet cleaner and some elbow grease. But I got it good. I pulled the carpet out and cleaned it, let it dry and let the interior dry. Plan on buying a new carpet kit later, but I added Rugged Ridge floor mats front, rear, and a cargo mat. I really like the mats they got a deep tread and go up the sides. The rear is one peice, and covers the middle hump.

I got issues seeing at night so picked up a pair of 35W 6K HID projector lights.

Doing a full engine, trans, and case service today. Then its time to BUILD!!!!

The Plan: This Jeep needs to be both a daily driver and medium trail rig. To get me by for the next couple years while i build my YJ buggy.

Lift Ive been debating over the past month on what kit to use. Either the 7" IRO long arm kit, 7" IRO long arm with Clayton rear long arms, or the 7" Clayton kit. Theres about a $500 differance between IRO and Clayton. Clayton looks to be the stronger kit and they offer free shipping, plus I dont have to wait 3 weeks to have adjustable front arms to be built. Im going with Clayton, with Bilstein 5100 shocks.

Steering Going to use the same set up as I had on my YJ. Teraflex knuckle, with custom drag link, and tie rod. I need to make new rods, my YJ ones are beat up bad. This time im going to use chormolly instead of mild steel. So the rods will be 1.5 .250 wall molly DOM with 3/4" rod ends.

Tires Due to price Im going with Treadwrights 315/70/17R a set of 4 shipped to my house is only $720. I know few people that run these and they have had very good luck. I currently have a set of MB72's 17" Black alloy wheels on my wrangler.

Front Axle Ill be gutting my Dana 30 out of my YJ and putting it into the XJ 30 I picked up from the junk yard. So I will have Eton E locker, 30 spline molly shafts, 4.56 gears.

Rear Axle Going to use the Dana 44 out of my YJ. Ill cut the brackets its off and weld on new brackets. Ill be using the Clayton's rear ZJ bracket it kit. This axle also has Eton E locker, molly shafts, 4.56's and Ford 8.8 disc brakes.

Transfer Case Im still planning on using the NP242 I like the part time 4 wheel drive feature. Im still looking and what hack and tap kit to use. Local drive line shop will be making custom drive lines for me. There about $250 each.

Front Bumper Flatland4x4.com Has some nice CAD plans for the front bumper I thinking of picking up. This will save me few hours of planning and fab work. I will be adding my YJ's Warn 9.5ti winch, Rugged Ridge dually LEDs, and Lightforce 55W HID's to the bumper.

Rock Rails Ill be cutting the molding just below the door and adding a piece of either 3x3x.188, or 4x4x.188 square tube to fill in the notch Im making.

Rear Bumper Again to save time Im going with Flatland's rear bumper CAD drawing.

I cant wait, ill be ordering parts here in the next few days. When all the parts arrive ill be buring a weeks vacation to get her all built. Once shes all done im taking her down the the local Linex shop and the top half of the jeep getting lined dark gray. The bottom and bumpers black. Well theres my build/plan anything I over looked or should try different?

Looks like a fun build! After the Army, I can't stand the smell of Simple Green, haha. Some days I had been soaked head to toe in Simple Green. Sorry for the tangent, but even hearing about it makes me feel queazy. How do you like the new headlights? Good light output?

Went to the swap meat up north today and picked up a, Banks header for $100. New 17x9.5 Black steel single sided bead locks $775 for a set. Also a Riddle diff cover for my dana 30 for $50. Love the lights, they put out just as much light as my Lightforce Offroad HID's. With my headlights and my Riddged LED's i wont be using my Lightforce lights theres just no need.

Well the funds that were suppose to be here in March still have yet to arrive, my uncle is slacking. I haven't been wheeling in months i bought a set of Swamper M16 37 1350 15 with Interco Birddog 15x9 wheels. Ill stuff them under the ZJ when I get it all built. I dont want to hear Oh 37s are too big for a Dana 30/Dana 44 cause for me its not. Ive been wheeling my YJ with the same axle for years with no issues...not even a broken wheel joint.

If this is medium, I'd hate to try and follow your version of hard trail rig.
