When are we gonna get some pictures of this Jeep. You say you are working on it today. Stretched on leaves.
|
ya ya
I don't have many pics, but the cross member, hangers and axle are welded. Its too damn hot (close to 100) to keep working, finished around 3:30 or so.
rear cross member mocked
its a bad pic and the axle is no longer under the jeep
As she sits now the wb is right at 100". It can be moved forward or back an Inch still or so, but I'm very happy with 100". This week I will hopefully get the axle geared and I need to get the brakes on it, then its ready to sit on all fours. Still need to outboard the rear shocks, but if it comes down to it, I'll just drive the jeep to someones place that can do the welding for me without shocks.
Still waiting on corners and once I get the wheel well figured out I can get steel to make my rockers. Its slowly coming together
HUGE thanks to Smoke and Robert for helping you guys made it very quick work in this heat I owe you more than a burger and hot dog from DQ. James, thanks for stopping by, lol. It was too hot to keep working once you got here, hopefully itll be cool for our corner cutting party

Rear Currie 4" coils - 190 shipped. (They've been sitting in the back of my Jeep for mock up but won't work out for me.)
Hornblasters Shocker S4 horn set with some extras $210 shipped. (It is not OBA, just an accessory for OBA)
"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.

Well, I ran into quite the snafu over the past few days and as of yesterday thought I was out of the mission impossible run....
Basically what happened is I got a call from Tim (guy setting up my gears) and said that my rubi locker was bad....It was warped, for lack of better words. Basically he couldn't get any backlash at all then rotated the the ring gear 180* and had way too much, said there is no way it would last if he would set it up. So, I tried a few outlets to get another front rubi locker and none of those panned out. Another ****ty thing about not being able to use the rubi locker is my 4.88 thick gears are useless if I got a different locker. Yesterday was a bad day....
So after shopping around all day and waiting on people to return my calls, I got a hold of Andrew from letz roll offroad (out of arizona) that my buddy Ryan uses and he hooked me up on the best price I could find for yukon 4.88s and a yukon grizzly locker, which will be overnighted to Tim (drop shipped from Randys R&P) - I was going to go with a detroit but he talked me into the grizzly, said thats all they run and use them in 9s hard. It's warranty blows eatons out of the water and he also said the internals are all much larger than what inside a detroit. I would trust a detroit with no problem, but from the things I've read about the yukons I think I'll love it. Oh and it was $100 cheaper than the detroit.
So, everything should be at Tims tomorrow and hopefully I will be picking up my axle monday or tuesday at the latest and I should be running MI with no problem next weekend - another bummer thing about this is I was supposed to be taking my jeep up to a buddies this weekend to have cage work done....Its still gonna happen this summer, but I really wanted it before MI.

Bummer to hear about the Rubi locker issue. I was looking forward to seeing it all go together. Regardless, glad to hear it will all work out. Can't wait to see it rolling stretched w/ leafs.

ya, but they've got an additional main leaf in it - and I have another one I can throw in if I need a little more lift out of it, I don't think I'll need it tho, I'll probably end up lowering the front first

yea its alright, the yukon isn't my first choice, but I figure with a 100" wb the full time locker in the rear won't bother me much if any on the street. It'll be together next week, hopefully no later than wednesday so I can work out kinks thursday then beat the **** outta it friday and saturday I'm most likely towing to the badlands so it will be on.

major progress over the past 2 days...doesn't seem like a lot to me, yet, but I won't be truly excited until its done. Tomorrow is a big day; gotta bleed the brakes, which I hate doing, pick up the steel for my rockers and make them, fit and cut my savvy blanks, do a **** ton more grinding and cutting, get my drive shaft lengthened, hammer in some new u joints in my super sexy front chromos and install those, and finally paint if there is time....there really isn't enough hours in the day. I've already accepted I won't be wheeling friday, will probably be finishing all of this up and getting to the badlands friday evening to camp and relax around the fire before hitting MI saturday. Sorry for the run on sentence but I am exhausted
some pics

love the look without a gas tank
just realized these are really ****ty pics, I'll try and remember the camera tomorrow.
those are just some ****ty rancho 5000s - I didn't feel like dropping much money on shocks yet - we'll see how long these last. As far as travel goes I have right at 6" of up and 6" of down travel - We'll see if I need all of it, but its there. The clearances where REALLY tight for the lower shock mounts and that is about the only way we could mount them without either rubbing on the caliper or blocking the banjo bolt, but It'll work.
I owe Robert a HUGE thanks for coming over tonight to do the welding for me - Robert, you are the man.
I'm off to bed - lots to do tomorrow
