That and the narrow width is what makes that particular housing so desirable. Fyi, disc brakes from an Explorer 8.8 are a direct swap.

I would've jumped on that housing too. That was a really good find!

Well you just made my life much easier! I was going to do a disc swap anyways, but that's much cheaper!

Thanks!

I pulled the shafts and took apart the drums. Nothing is rusted on, which is nice, but it looks like the oil hasn't been changed since '73. They are 28 spline shafts, but won't be for long

Got a little farther today. Just purchased Iron Rock Offroad 8.8 swap brackets for the 9. Same tube diameter and I will need to modify somewhat, but they will work.

Spent the entire day of work trying to decide between 5.13s or 4.88s. I want to swap the 30 to a JK rubi 44 or even a JK 30 for the lower gears, so thats where 5.13s come into play.

I would gear as low as possible with that 4 cylinder, but it depends on how soon you are swapping the front axle. Try looking around, you may be able to source a 3rd already geared to 4.10 that you can run until you figure out the front axle situation. That is one of the beauties of the 9", easy gear changes.

While you are welding on the housing, you should go ahead and do a backbone truss. For $35 shipped it is kinda dumb not to do it.

I have 4.88's and with 33's there great but for 35's I'd go 5.13 if you can.

5.13's it is! I can always run around without a front shaft for awhile before I do the front.

And that Truss will be coming in sometime next week

Started tacking in some of the brackets. Need to modify the uppers to fit. Also talked with my neighbor who has a millermatic 252 and knows how to regear a 9 and offered to weld the mounts fully. Great!
