The "One Amongst The Fence" Build
well, after lurking for a long while, and gathering 25+ posts I guess its time to make a build thread.
Starting out, my base plan was as follows: 2.5" RC spring lift 1.25 JKS Body lift Cragar Soft8 - Black - 4.0 BS 33x12.5R15 Goodyear Duratrac I would add what I started with, but anyone interested in reading this is no doubt uninterested in reading about another 06 Wrangler, 4.0, X, blah blah blah Sadly, my front tires gave out before I could get everything together along with the funds to begin my project. So I opted out for some 31x10.5R15 Duratracs (thanks 2006sport) and a 2" BB I got off craigslist. As always, a thread is worthless without pics: ![]() ![]() Now the biggest question is: do I continue my effort to 33s? or set aside parts and build to 35s? I know it takes a lot more to correctly run 35s but i've always liked the look. Anyone have any regrets with doing either size? P.S. Mad mad props to anyone who understands the title ![]()

thanks for the props for the tires ahhaa.
I would wheel for a while and see what exactly you need as far as tire size and lift height goes. See what your limitations and the rigs limitations are and build from that. Jeep looks good btw

You can go ahead and thank me about those tires. haha
But i say go with the 35s, and wait and get everything needed.

If you want to run 35s, build the jeep for 35s. You don't want to get it set up on 33s and a month later want the 35s

There is no "setting up" for 35's. All there really is to do is the lift (at least 4") and gears. And that's it. If you do heavy trail riding you may want to consider a v8 Grand Cherokee steering set-up. That's all I started with and I was PERFECTLY fine with 35's.

My point was, you don't want to lift the jeep 3in to squeeze 33s and gear it for 33s just to decide to rip the lift out for a taller one and change the gears to lower ones. Just do it once.

Thats the deal, I trust my life to my jeep more than once every day. If im going to put something that big and heavy (35s, or hell, even 33s) I want to make sure I didnt cut corners in doing so. That mindset then spreads out to what you apperently must replace in building in a direction. And the gears thing I really only want to do once, doesn't seem like the most interesting way to spend money.
So while this 33 vs. 35 debate burns on, I cant decide what to replace this BB with. And within the next few weeks a cobra75, hardtop and matching spare will be added.

I made many mistakes along the way with my build.
Decide how big you want to go, and do it one time. I've had 31's, 33's, 35's, 37's, and now 39.5's. It is truly sad how much money I wasted getting to the point where I am now. |

If you are looking for a cheap decent lift, the Rough Country long-arm is starting to look promising. And around $1,300 you can't beat the price. Keep in mind that 4" is more than enough to run 35's if that's what you're aiming for

I went through the same dilemma as you. I opted to go to 35's. I started out with D30/D35 and 3.07 gears just like you. I knew that I was going to swap the axles and regear regardless. Is this in your plans? Either way, I would also look into steering and brake upgrades. So why not go 35's? I'm running 35's on the same components as your base plan, FYI. Plenty of lift for 35's if you do it right. Nice looking rig. Let me know if you have any questions.
