HP 30s make a nice strong axle , and thats a pretty fair price for it already set up and locked .

I think a HP30 is a great choice especially if you never plan on going bigger than 35's.

I hate spending the cash, that was my trailer.

Knock on wood. Plus this is the fastest possible way to get the Heep back on the trail.

Think I will have to shorten my Tom Woods DS?

That is not too bad of a price already set up. Keep us updated. I am getting ready to put 35's on and I have already been warned that my 30 will not keep up with my wheeling style. LOL
I am trying to figure out what route I should go for my axle, but still keep it daily driver friendly.

Don't. High pinion 30 over lp44 anyday in my book. And way cheaper. People that run the hammers out here swap rubi 44s out to hp30's constantly. Hp 30 with a full case locker should do just fine with the krawlers.

HP30 is running on the drive side of the gear , in other words the gears are pulling themselves together where the 44 LP is running on the coast side and pushing apart . The knuckles out are the same here are some of the specs to compare .
Ring Gear Diameter 7.20 Inches vs 8.50 Inches
Pinion Shaft Diameter 1.38 Inches vs 1.38 Inches
Pinion Shaft Spline Count 26 26

Whoever says a hp 30 ring gear is the same strength or stronger than a lp 44 is simply just wrong. Believe what you want to believe, but that's so far from the truth it's not even funny.

Have you ever had a 30 ring gear right beside a 44 ring gear? The contact patch on the 44 is damn near twice as big. Do you know how much more strength you have in your gears having 3 to 4 more teeth on your pinion? Yes they are deflecting but the casting of a 44 also has alot more strength than a 30. There is no comparison of strength I'm sorry to spoil your assumption. That's like saying a hp 44 is stronger than a Lp 60.

Model........Ring gear size".....Max momentary output torque FT-lb
D30...............7.125.............2350 ft lbs
D44................8.5...............3460 ft lbs

Its a big difference in the max output rating, no debating that . But the HP 30 is a strong axle and holds up well to 35s .

Pretty often if you have chromos. I've watched 6 sets of 30 gears blow up now, and 2 of which were high pinion. But we are an extremely rowdy crowd.

35 inch krawlers are heavy bastards that straight hook on rocks. I don't think a hp30 will hold up if you get to hammering on it, but it might. My friend runs them on his hp jk30 and they have held up. But he has only been wheeling with them 3 times and never really gotten on it

After sleeping on it, I decided to stick with the HP 30 and Detroit. Hopefully it hangs in there for a while
