newman08's Franknstein LCOG TJ Build (JK Axle Swap)

So a little over a year ago I picked up this 2000 TJ with some good parts, but it was executed poorly. I saw a lot of potential and the price was fair so I thought why not...

I had a clear goal in mind when I purchased this Jeep: 37s, 100" wheel base, and LOW!

When I bought it, it had a D44/D30 with ARBs and 4:56 gears, Atlas 2, RE 5.5 Longarm kit, and some other goodies.

Phase 1 of my build was to lower it down to 2" springs and fix the steering issues.

Phase 2 (Current Phase): JK Axle Swap, triangulated rear suspension, and 37s

So here is the breakdown of where I am at currently (phase 2):

-JK Rubi 44s front and rear
-G2 4:88 Gears
-Sleeved and Gusseted
-Artec Truss/4 link brackets (upper and lower)
-Teraflex axle Brackets (front and rear)
-Teraflex diff covers
-Ruffstuff offset Tie Rod
-Ruffstuff Drag Link with 1 ton ends
-Ruffstuff custom upper control arms
-Teraflex Trail Rate Sway Bar
-Hydro-assist Steering
-37" MTR-Ks
-JK MOABs
-Poison Spyder DeFender XC's
-Rear Corner Armor
-Custom fabbed front stinger bumper

I'll be watching this one, I'm just starting a JK Rubi axle swap into my 01 TJ.

99 Wrangler Project Detroit Mongrel 5.3/4l60e/Atlas HPD60/14B coilovers etc...

So here is where I started...

I wanted to get it lowered down so I went with Teraflex 2" lift springs and the Teraflex HD steering and track bar set up.

Lowering it down from 5.5" to 2" of lift was a pretty good little project. I started by dropping out the rear springs, track bar and shocks. This was more time intensive than the front because I had to shorten the rear track bar and weld on a new heim joint in order for it to work with the shorter springs. From there I installed the new spring and track bar and moved on to the front.

I put a lot of thought into this steering and track bar set up and I wasn't totally sure that it would work because it is technically made for about 4" of lift. I mounted the Tie Rod and the Drag Link to the bottom of the knuckles. Then on the track bar I mounted the axle side bracket on the bottom hole and the top hole on the frame sider track bar bracket. this gave me an parallel plane for my drag link and my track bar, and also gave me just enough clearance so I did not hit my frame with my drag link (this set up worked amazing).

From there I ended up running the 10" travel Teraflex 9550 Shocks front and rear. I think Teraflex has them list for their 3 to 4" lift.

Front shock specs: Extended = 24.7, Compressed = 14.52
Rear shock specs: Extended = 24.84, Compressed = 14.82

As far as bump stops are concerned, on the front am running the stock cups and bumps, on the bottom I have a 3" spacer that equals about 3.5 - 3.75" of up travel. then on the rear I am just running the stock set up and it works just fine.

Here are the measurements after I got it all lowered down:

Belly Pan to Floor = 20.5"
Top of Windshield Frame to Floor = 77"
Front Bumper to Floor = 27.5"

These measurements are with 2" teraflex springs and a 1" BL.

Did you change the frame side trackbar mount when you changed trackbars?

Yeah, the Teraflex HD Track Bar kit comes with new frame side, and axle side brackets. I had to modify the frame side bracket by cutting off a couple inches off the bottom for clearance.

how do you plan on doing the jk axle swap ? is there a write up ?

i know it doesnt bolt right in.

I'm not sure if there is a write up on it... I'm just doing it on my own. Definitely not a direct bolt in. It's just like any other axle swap, custom fabrication, time, and money... more on this subject to come!!
