New Jeep Owner/Offroader Build

Hey There guys and gals of JeepForum.

I picked myself up a '94 ZJ Limited about a month ago after wanting one for about 4 years now. So far I haven't done a whole lot to it. When I picked it up it had no battery, windshield wipers, had a dual outlet muffler with only one outlet piped, brakes were gone (still has no E-brake) On the plus side I did only pay $750 for the ZJ and from what I guess that's a pretty good steal.

After getting it home I got a new battery, windshield wipers, ran sea-foam through her followed up by a fully synthetic oil change, and welded a cap onto the non piped outlet of my muffler, which made the jeep sound so much nicer.

I've also replaced the front and rear brakes, Put a 231 into it (Initially had a 249 which had a seized viscous coupler that was practically welded to the main output shaft FML) And done some touching up aesthetically painting over some rust spots on the drivers door and covering the gold trim that goes around the jeep with Blaze Purple Plastidip and smoked out the taillights with VHT Nightshade.

I'm planning on turning this ZJ (In due time) into a serious off-roader but I am still really new to this whole thing, which leads me to my first question... Honest opinions greatly appreciated; Whats the best (Economically friendly but still good quality) 3.5-4" lift kit for these jeeps?

Thanks in advance for you're opinions

(Images below are first day I bought it and then today)

I'd put more money into a good lift.. And those bumpers are HEAVY, the rear will weigh about 250-300lbs loaded up and the front will be about 220 with the winch in there.

I'd do IRO 4.5" with all adjustable arms and JK 32" takeoffs.

Thanks for the advice. Ill keep that in mind. I'm not going to be purchasing anything for a while but that's just a preliminary list of things I was planning on putting on it.

Yeah, I'm going to start driving it a bit more so you might see it if you're ever in the south end of the city.

For what ever its worth, check out ZONE offroad. They have a well priced kit and is a sister company of BDS. The only difference in the springs between zone and BDS is the warranty. I think ZONE will warranty sag in the springs for life, but BDS covers everything for life. Only real difference I have found and zone is about half the price.

Yessir, so do JohnnyZJ and CatSplat

Should have mentioned, Broken Axle is the IRO dealer in town. Great guys and decent price. They also do bulk orders from Quadratec and other places to save on the shipping and duties.
