Great conversion! How does the "responsiveness" feel compared with the stock 4.2?

Thanks! No plans to do much to it, though I do have the fuel plate turned up all the way. It's more of a reliability build than power, lol.

Thanks, hopefully upper 20s from my research, which is 300% better than the 4.2, I was only getting 8-9 mpg

Not terrible, but it is sluggish until the turbo spools up, i can only liken it to be a little like riding a 2 stroke motorcycle, lol. Though a set of 3.73 or 4.10s would do wonders for it, I'm 99% sure it has 3.07s, which was even a little much with the 4.2, and with the the slightly higher max torque RPM of the diesel its time to find some axles out of a 4 cylinder.

Very good write up. Thank you for taking the time.

From the looks of your profile picture is appears that you may still have your track bars attached. Do a track bar search and maybe think about getting rid of them. Your rig will be 100% better for it.

Your welcome! Hope it's useful to anyone considering the swap.

I did give the rear track bar the boot when I was under it pulling the fuel tank etc. Unfortunately I'm going to keep the front one, as oil pan clearance is still tight near the diff, if I go with more lift in the future I may pull it.

DROOOL! I love your diesel jeep! Why did you go with the 5 cyl mercedes over the cummins 4bt? Just because you had everything off hand?

The biggest reason is I got two diesels( the one in the jeep has a new turbo), an AX 15,new heavy duty clutch/ slave cylinder, full exhaust, and all adapters and engine mounts for $1200. Plus it was a super easy swap

Nice. How much time did you have in the swap itself?

Cool Jeep, I teach across the border from you in Sparta. I'd love to do a diesel swap sometime. We make biodiesel at school from time to time.

It wasn't bad, it only took a weekend to pull the 4.2 and get the diesel mounted in, then a few weeks of working on it a few hours a day hooking stuff up.

Cool! I might drive it over that way with my brother if we make the flat fender swap meet.

Sorry for taking so long to post an update guys, finally got the gauges worked out, the oil and temp are now mechanical, so no worries there anymore.

I wouldn't farkle with the stock Dana 35 rear... Dana 44 at least, just as a safety precaution with all that extra torque you have...

Great build sofar. Keep posting, diggin it!

Thanks, hoping to do a 44 or a 8.8 with a SYE so I can lose the trans drop.

I picked up this beast yesterday, a Ramsey 8000 for $160
