New guy's '97 project

I traded my car for this '97 SE last week. I'm very mechanical (used to do body work, done lifts/lower jobs on several vehicles, done several motor swaps, etc) and plan on doing everything in my garage. It's pretty well stock aside from a sound bar, the AR62 wheels/31s, and tube bumper. My plans are.....

Chevy caprice rear coils/Superlift 4" front coil lift (with std supporting mods)
Barricade front and rear bumpers
Harbor freight winch
Junkyard E-fan (undecided on donor victim yet have used HHR and Taurus) in the past have an s197 mustang parts car I may measure up
33x12.5 General Grabber AT2s
gears (4.5x-4.8x range)
Polk DB speakers in dash and sound bar
Long arm setup (well down the road)
Eventual repaint

Tube bumper has got to go.

I sprayed the interior tub with SEM Rock-It bed liner and am very impressed with it.

Had my mind stuck on it and had to check and see if the fan would fit. It will be very close, but I believe it will be about spot on with the edge of the radiator.

Also I forgot to mention that I've ordered the parts to convert over to H4 headlights. I will be painting the trim pieces black during the install.

No pics, but I ordered lift parts today. Ended up being $326 through Summit Racing and I'll get a $35 rebate on the shocks. I think I'll be getting tires next week. Probably will get General Grabber AT2s in 33x12.50LT15.

Nice jeep. It's got potential. I have a 98 se with same wheel set up with a 2.5 inch skyjacker lift and 31x10.5x15. Was thinking of going to 33x12.5x15. What axles do you have on it? I'm curious to hear what drive performance is like wi5h 33x12.5x15. I love the look but debating the upgrade.

Just read back and it looks like you're going to regear to 4.5 to 4.8 range.

i just added new dxi521 polks in the dash and sound bar.
the highs are great, but they have less bass response then the factory speakers.
plan on a small sub to fill out the sound.

good luck on the build.

I'm probably going to pick up some 16" wheels and use the tires off my stock Super Duty wheels (285/75-16) temporarily. I will be running the 33s for a bit before rehearing. I'll keep updated.

I hear you on that. I've got the DXI625 front and rear in my Super Duty with a 10" Polk MM1040 sub that is awesome. I may eventually run two 8s above the rear wheel wells.

Just finished up an unforeseen modification. I've had a leaky, spewing power steering reservoir since shortly after I got the jeep. I fixed that today using a 4.0 pump from an XJ. I had a modify a few things to get it to work, but overall it's much worth it. It will also work great since I am in the middle of an E fan swap. I'm also running a radiator flush/cleaner in it and will be draining and adding new coolant tomorrow. My new H4 headlight housings came in today. Not sure when I'm going to have time to do anything worthwhile. I will update with pics tomorrow though.

Not much of a visual update, but I'm very pleased with the progress today. I drained the coolant put in all new. I installed the new headlight housings and H4 bulbs (an amazing difference). While I had the retainer rings and trim off I sanded them down and sprayed them satin black. Lastly I changed out the tranny fluid. The last person put some thick gear oil in it. I replaced it with 10/30. It shifts much smoother now. I'll have some pics of the headlights tomorrow.

Here's the p/s setup swap from yesterday.

I'm also going Friday to pick up some parts I found on craigslist (Poison Spider trail stinger bumper, winch plate, fair lead with cable and rope rollers, and a set of Hella lights.

Nice, but that chrome is blinding me.

Preaching to the choir on that one brother. I hate chrome. I'm actually picking up a Poison Spider trail stinger bumper tomorrow.
