You can get a 14 bolt or Sterling geared and lockered for less that that.
1500 bucks to stick a Dana 44 or Ford 8.8 under there seems a waste of money. you would be better served with a hunt for a Ford 9" axle if you are going to blow some cash

I agree Art, but I think the 8.8 would be bulletproof for me on 35's, and a considerable upgrade for me with some chromos in it. My differential clearance would be atrocious with a big boy axle and 35's.

The more I think of it, the more I just want to keep my D35. And see just how many of the countries most notable trails I can drag it through. I'm going for the most famous D35 on the inter web!

Then if / when i'm ready to actually step up..... step up to a 14b D60 combo and run the appropriate tire size. I must say I'm still having a ball with these 35's though. I hate to make it boring out there without seeking out the absolute hardest lines.

Truss your current axle so it doesn't bend the tubes and keeps the diff housing from flexing and you should be ok as is

That's a major dilemma also.... running my links in a stock configuration on the axle leaves little room for a truss. I think i'm just gonna run the sucker as is. Hope it last till I start building my sons rig, so it can go in it and live a happy highschoolers life on 33's. And I can justify the expense to upgrade. Really there's so many options, no right and wrong......as long as I'm having fun with it.

I should have tossed my trussed D44 setup for a 4 link on the trailer and tempted you with it while we were out at Moab. I really need to get that, my D30, and D35 out of the garage lol

I probably would have been all over it! Darn it. Bring it next year when you and Lu come to Cali.

You may be able to craft your own truss with the current placement of your upper mounts

Not gonna worry about it. Just focusing on the stretch! Gotta stay focused. I ALMOST thought I was going to get the OK to order the tank tonight..... then we remembered about back to school shopping coming up.
