My YJ LT1 build

Hello all,

Buying my second YJ Thursday, my first was a brand new 94' 4.0, did a few mods on it, then sold it in 2000 in mint condition w/36k on the odometer (Had company truck). I sold it for a 96' Grand Cherokee 4x4 to impress a girl, who I later married, figured zip up windows wouldn't work. I kick myself the a$$ every time I see a YJ for getting rid of it.

Fast forward to present day, married 7 years with 2 small kids, 2 small dogs and 2 vette's. One is a 73' roadster which I restored mostly myself. I couldn't have done it without the help of a corvette forum, the assistance I received was invaluable.

I recently found an 87' YJ sitting behind a storage facility in fairly decent condition, has hardtop and doors and half steel doors, no soft top or engine. I tracked down the owner and convinced him to sell it for $1000.

I plan to make a daily driver out of it, but I'm going to start from the frame up, from there Iím still up in the air....back with a 4.0 inline 6, or small V8. Would a small V8 be practicable for an everyday driver? I don't plan on heavy offroading, mild at best (getting too old).

Iím looking forward to pestering everybody on this forum for information as my build progresses, as you can tell, Iím very long windedÖ.

Thanks and apologies in advance :cheers2:,

Rick

This poor thing just got forgotten didn't it? Get it fixed up and good luck. Gave ya a click free. You have to have like 50 posts or something like that for them to actually show without the link. Just takes a few days of active posting.

Welcome to the forum and nice looking YJ! Looks like you have the perfect start for a SBC swap. Mine has a 5.7 TPI motor from an 88 Vette and can be driven all day long with absolutley no problems at all, I love it!

Wait...you are saying you can drive your Jeep ALL day without any problems? Wow...is that an accomplishment for a YJ? Us JK guys can go a few weeks...maybe a month without problems.

Im kidding...the way that was phrased though...just didnt look right.

I would expect nothing less from a JK owner, just kidding! :cheers2: I guess I was just trying to answer his question about a V8 being practical.

I know...just the way you said it made it sound like the YJ usually can't go a whole day without a problem.

You have to admit, working on them is half the fun, well maybe not half!

5.7YJ- that is one sweet looking engine! To the OP, have fun with it and it looks like you got a really good deal there, definitely a diamond in the rough.

Finished my inspection, itís a Peugeot tranny with a NP207. I decided to go w/ a Chevy 350, AX 15 tranny. What does the forum think of the NP207 transfer case, I donít read anything positiveÖ:thumbdown:

I am always the first one preaching to people donít buy the first year of any vehicle and look what I did, my wife even called me out on it !!

If I go with the AX15 tranny, will I need to change the tranny mount? Will the NP207 mount to the AX15 without an adaptor?

What are your thoughts on the Novak motor to tranny adaptor and GM motor mounts ?

Thanks,
Rick

Is it really 50 posts before I can post my own pictures ??

I'm axing the AX15, going automatic, hopefully with an L98 I have my eye on.

Guess I need to start a build thread, Is there a specific place to do so on the forum?

After a roll of quarters, rims came surprisingly clean with a little steel wool & polish

Great looking YJ, and only 1000 bucks. Did you flat bed or drive it home. You're going to have some fun doing the upgrades.
