The best way to weld cast iron that I have found is by using high nickel rods with an ARC welder. I had to weld up my D18 transfer case this way. Welded up the mating surface and ground it flat. Lasted for years.

You're telling me. the wheeling here pretty much sucks. Was living in CA for 8 years until last June. WI is where I grew up, but wasn't into off-roading when I lived here last. A bit frustrating. The only plus is more motivation to build the jeep up and make pilgrimmages to the promised lands of moab and the rubicon.

great build, dont know how I missed it. Read thru the first page and wondered why you were spending so much time on a rusty donor but after reading the entire thread I really admire your ability to stick with a project and enjoy the **** out of it while you go. Way to go

Hey thanks guys. The jeep is more than just a jeep to me. Not to sound too gay here bit it has a lot of sentimental meaning. It was a lot of work but I couldn't be happier on how it turned out. Although I'm always thinking about what else I can do to it. Lol

I'm pretty proud of the way that thing turned out. It's solid and practical. Unless I planned to keep the rear seat. Then it's not.
