what size tires do you plan on running?

the HP30 front and C8.25 rear are good up to the 35" range if built right....the D35 rear isnt much good for anything bigger than 33's especially when locked

i'm going HP30 open with 4.10s and a Ford 8.8 w/ 4.10s and LSD in my '91 with 33's

i would go with an 8.8 over a D44 rear....as for the front you would have to do a lot of fab to get a D44 to fit unless you got one off a TJ Rubicon but they are unfortunately a low pinion design and not a ton stronger than a D30....a narrowed Ford High Pinion D44 would be sweet tho

For the front I would just try to find some '95 and up factory shafts and keep your current ones for spares.

If you have the 8.25" out back then it will have the smaller shafts ('97 & up have 29 spline) but that doesn't mean it's a horrible axle.

Quick run down of where I'd start...

More protection - rocker guards, gas tank, TC, etc.
Aussie or lockrite up front - if you have the 231 TC if not then ARB
Upgraded ujoints/shafts ('95 & up) up front

And the most important thing you can do is join a club or association
