I agree 100%. The flatties sit in the exact same location as the sheet metal. I think I made the last post a little wordy to the point of confusion.

Quote:
The other side of the issue (clearance) can be seen a few ways. Yes, you gain more clearance over stock with the flatties, but you get the exact same coverage from chopping. I am surprised that I have not seen chopped highlined fenders.
To reword that in an easy to read form:

Stock untrimmed: Crappy coverage
Flatties: Better Coverage than stock
Stock cut: Better than stock, same as flatties.
Highlined and Chopped: The most clearance of the choices.

A quick update!

I was getting ready for a ride this weekend, unfortunately I blew a radiator hose on the truck and found a couple pther problems. All in all, I'm not going to run the trip this weekend. I have decided to take the extra month and dump more time, money and energy into the truck and get it ready for Rausch Creek in May.

That sucks man. Too bad you have to put more into it to get it running right. What is wrong with it?

Anyways, that trailer looks to be in better shape than the beast pulling it

The truck just blew the radiator hose off of the radiator itself. I already fixed that.... The truck is running great (yes, it has the 454! Passes everything but a gas station!) I just want to run a heavy duty tranny cooler w/ temp. guage to keep tabs on how warm it gets. I want to run an electric fan for slow pulling hills. I want to weld the back half of the frame and box the ends ( I found a tiiiiiiny hairline crack that I want to fix right where the hitch bolts through the frame). Other than that stuff I would tow with it all day. Oh, I also want to get rid of the damned proportioning valve. I didn't have much tounge weight and the rear axle wanted to almost lock up. That would be bad in the rain...... haha.

I see... not bad at all then. Weld up the frame, get a temp gauge on, kill the proportioning valve.

No need to do the cooler just yet without finding out what your tranny is doing. There was actually a pretty long discussion about auto trannies in TJ Tech and it led to a discussion about tow rigs. You might want to find out a little more info. Turns out some have systems in place that make coolers almost useless.

That depends on who you talk to...... Pretty much the ONLY thing that kills an auto is heat buildup. I would rather run a tranny cooler that isn't 100% needed and be safe. They're cheap peace of mind. Plus the TH400 tranny is only a 3-speed. It's a screamer.

That was Blaine talking passing along info from his "Auto Guru." He was passing along his own experience (with a newer dodge) and what the other guy was saying.

Being that it is a 3-speed, I see where you are coming from now. I know the local parts stores on this side of the river have trans coolers right on the shelves.

Plus, the lines going to my factory tranny cooler look like they have seen better days.
