~ My Savvy Jeep Build ~
My name is Kathryn, Kat for short. I own a 2001 Jeep Wrangler, and I absolutely love it! I bought it in December of 2000. I fell in love with the Amber-Fire Pearl Coat color and our search began for one to call my own. I wanted an Automatic, a Dana 44 in the rear, the factory Sentry Key and the Dark Agate Interior. We searched about 15 dealerships and all they had on the lot was the Manual Transmission. So we decided to order one.

We ordered my Jeep with the specifications that I wanted, and Jeep surprised me by delivering it to our local dealership in 2 weeks. I was so excited! They put “especially made for Kathryn” on the Window Sticker. What more could a girl ask for.

For my first build we collected parts for just over six months and stored them away until we had all the parts we needed to build it. My first Jeep modification was a Currie Anti-Rock in the front, and a Currie rear bumper. I love Sunflowers and my favorite colors are Orange, Green and Yellow so I thought that Green accessories would go well with the Amber-Fire color of my Jeep.

We had the rear bumper powder coated Green and I thought it looked great! Lots of people hated the Green, some people even called my Jeep “The Great Pumpkin”. A week after installing the rear bumper a guy in a Volvo rear ended me at a red light. My bumper had a tiny black mark where he hit me but the front end of his Volvo was totaled, the hood was bent up in a huge V shape. I was a Currie fan from then on and I still am today.

At one time I was part of John Currie’s support team when he was competing in the ARCA Rock Crawling events. I was his personal photographer and I wrote a few stories for his Rock Talk publication. After each event he gave me a new part for my Jeep, the Front Bumper with the Hoop, the Rock Rails and the Tail Bones for my rear bumper. I recommend Currie products to everybody and I still do today.

I went on a Rookie Run out at Johnson Valley once, and I made it over Sledge Hammer with very little damage. I’ll confess that I didn’t get much sleep the two weeks before the event. I’ve driven the Rubicon Trail, several Trails in Big Bear, High Desert Round-Up, and many others. One of my favorite Trips was the Rookie Run put on by the Victor Valley 4 Wheelers at their Fun in the Desert Run. They showed us how to get to all of the Hammer trails, explained how the trails were built and the history of Hammer Trails.

Times change, and it’s time for my Jeep to evolve. Gerald Lee and my husband started a company called Savvy Off Road in March of 2009, I love the Savvy products, they are sleek, light weight and very functional. It’s time for my Jeep to be Savvy!

Now for the Good Stuff!
We've installed my AW-4 Transmission

and tonight we put in my NP231 Transfer Case

we picked up myRear Dana 44 Axle a couple of days ago and Blaine cut off the lower shock mounts, and painted it Shiny Black

and we are installing the Rear Rotors, Brake Pads, Calipers and brake lines, the Superior Rear Axles Shafts, and the Wizard Brackets.

Look at the Rear Brake Calipers!

Tomorrow we will put in the Novak Transfer Case 231 Shifter Cable. My front HP Dana 30 is at John's shop in Corona "All 4 Wheel Drive" getting the Superior 488's with a Super 30 Kit installed.

I've already removed all of the Body Armor that was Green, and we sold all of the parts that I took off to a fellow Jeeper, he say's that he loves the Green on his Jeep :D

My new accessory color for my Body Armor will be Semi-Gloss Black!

We will be installing the Savvy Rock Sliders, Savvy Full Corner Armor with Tub Rub Rails, Savvy Front Bumper with Winch Guard and Fairlead Mount, and the Savvy Rear Bumper with Receiver.

Time to make dinner!

She also drives mine out in JV and sometimes when she thinks I need a bit more of a challenge, she leaves it like this for me to figure out. :D

She didn't do that to hers when she was out there though.

Initial Reaction: I keep hearing about this rig, so it's awesome to be able to finally see it!

Secondary Reaction: A bunch of us are about to get totally shown up by a girl. :D

I've never seen your rig before Blaine. Its an honor. Mrs. Johnson, I have to say that replacing the green with the black was a good choice :2thumbsup:

Lol, oh Kat...What have you done? Welcome! We've spoken briefly before. I'm responsible for 37% of your phone minutes expended on your bill. lol Sorry. My wife is enjoying the lip smackers haha. I believe you have my carpet in your Jeep. Anyways, we look forward to your build!

And I think I've got an old set of Kat's steering knuckles in mine, if I'm correctly remembering what Blaine told me...and since I know how awesome mine are I can only conjecture that whatever replaced them in her rig was doubleplusawesome. Either way, I've got the hunch that she's piloting a pretty enviable machine.
