This is what I picked up. This is the ebay listing from when the guy bought the jeep in 12/07. He has since rebuilt the transmission, did all new brake lines and cables, and did some other stuff. I am going to fix the rot when I get the jeep. Minor and he has the metal. Its only going to cost me 300 bucks to fix it and paint the hood, which has some peeling. The rot is right under the driver door. The rest of the metal is good. The Jeep started right up and it has a current inspection sticker. The guy was driving it up until about November, when he bought a newer wrangler. Frame is good too. The only blemish on the body is the rot.
The jeep does not come with the plow. This is how it looks. Has about 84k on it now.
This is my first post. So what do you guys think? I paid 1500 for it.
My Jeep is currently at my buddy's shop awaiting need YJ 4 inch lift, bilsteins, tom woods, etc. Pulled the wheels, sold the 33s, and have new 35s coming in. Sand blasted the wheels and now am about ready to paint them. Hope to have them done by the end of the week. I thought about new wheels, but I like the OEM 15x8s. They aren't rare, but not as common as the 15x7s. My GF is going to pin stripe them for me. This is something else she is working on. I told her she is going to have to do it over after my jeep has the new lift and tires, haha
The new lift is nearly all on. A little more work needs to be done on the rear, as you can probably see. Lots of new parts and I am happy the transfer case drop is gone.
It was kind of cool sandblasting the old paint away. After a few layers, I could see that they were originally white with a red pin stripe. My GF is going to paint a black pin stripe. It will go where it would have gone on a late '70s Renegade. I think it will look pretty cool.
I now have a Tom Woods CV drive shaft. The perches on the axle were cut and re-welded so now its pointed straight at the transfer case. Its a much better system and I hope it eliminates all the vibration I was having. :cheers2:
Here are the disconnects I am getting to replace the garbage warrior products ones I used to have. The old lift was REALLY stiff. I actually didn't even need me sway bar connected. The warrior products disconnects were also really hard to use and loud/clanky on the road. I hope these work much better with the softer suspension.
I have those "old" ones too. Not sure what brand they are anymore, bought 'em in the mid 90's. What I don't like is the pins and/or the center tube can corrode fast if they set for any length of time. I started coating them with Lubathane (silicone grease), but that's kind of a band-aid.
Those Terra-flex's are nice but quite salty!
The warrior products versions I had were really hard to use. Getting them re-connected was miserable. I am hoping the Teraflex ones are better. The old ones were such a pain I never ended up using them. The Rough Country lift was so stiff I never really even needed them. The new YJ lift will probably require the sway bar, so I hope the expense on new disconnects is worth it.
So my 258 is very worn out and burning oil/smoking badly unless I put in a can and a half of engine restore, and needed to be rebuilt, so I bought this today:
It was rebuilt 10000 miles ago and comes with the CJ engine mounts, power steering brackets/pump, clutch, flywheel, and everything seen here. I am going to clean it up, paint it AMC Blue, and take a look at the inside of it to see if its good to go. Its an AMC 360 V8. I will probably get a Holley Truck Avenger Carb for it.
I just picked it up from the shop. Suspension, tires, and a bunch else done. I won't start the 360 project until the winter.
In the short drive home I have noticed a HUGE difference in ride quality. It is a massive difference over the old set-up. The new drive shaft, shocks, lift, clocked axle, transfer case delete, etc. have made it so much better.
Just playing around in the parking lot. SO much better than before. The old lift had ZERO flex. Taking it out in the woods tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much better it is.
That is a beautiful Jeep! I saw you mentioned a 4" YJ lift. I have a Skyjacker (back cracker?) lift on my CJ, and it rides like a dump truck. I've been leaning toward an OME setup with the YJ conversion, but I'd be interested in hearing your experiences.
Yup. Can't wait. Already have a 670 truck avenger for it. Edelbrock performer intake next. It already has some nice parts, but it needs to be AMC blue to be in my jeep, haha.

I love it. It rides so much better than before. Bilsteins probably helped a lot. The wider springs in the front also made a nice difference. It completely transformed the way the jeep rides. I go down bumpy roads and I'm not launched around like before. But, I changed a lot at once. Springs, shocks, driveshaft, clocked axle, and 35s. I love the change though. I drove it all summer daily and it was great.
Finally found a part I've wanted since I purchased the Jeep. I lucked out on craigslist. I found a Dana 300 with a brand new LoMax 4:1 kit installed. It also has a twin stick conversion. The 300 has never even been used with the new parts. I will paint it and mount it up. Came with fresh Amsoil. My crawl ratio will go from 37.67:1 to 57.73:1. I can't wait to see what the difference is like in the woods. AMC 360 project is still in the works and I hope to start it in a few months.
New vintage vibes radio installed. It is MUCH better than the restrosound I had. Built quality is great and it doesn't seem as fragile. It's nice to have music again in the CJ.
