It was awesome. Tons of cool places, and some very nice meandering trails as well as that rock hill that was more intricate than I probably should have been doing alone. It's very hard to be your own spotter.....

Ryan, since your windshield light brackets are mounted below the fold in the windshield that stubby antenna might still bang off your lights. Pats mounts are just above the fold. Just a thought. Nice job though. I didn't realize you built them yourself until I just went through your build thread.

Hey Rob-

Great to hear from you. It's been a while. I think that putting a stubby on would probably still prevent the hitting the lights, because they are not 31" of thin metal, which has a lot of flexibility due to it's size. The short antenna is less than half the height, but is also coated in a firm rubber, which should technically keep it in shape the entire time, unless it comes in contact with something i.e. a branch. There should be no movement because of the Jeep shaking/bumping around on the trail.

Anyway, I could be entirely wrong. We shall see

Drove up to Chelmsford in the torrential downpour to pick up the AntennaX stubby for free from Fitzwilly. Thanks again for the antenna!! I'll install this tomorrow assuming the correct adaptor is in the kit. If not, AmtennaX already has mailed me an adaptor for it.

Simplest "mod" I've ever done hands down. Took less than 5 minutes to get it adapted and hooked up. Even more surprisingly, the old one came out with no hassle whatsoever. It's a size 9 or 10 mm open wrench and it backed out on my first 1/8th of a grunt. The kit had come with the correct adapter which was good cause we weren't sure if it would or not. From testing within the driveway, reception is normal for the 3 FM stations I flip between. No test of AM cause I don't give a **** if that works or not!

The change in appearance is worth it's weight in gold. These are available from their website or eBay for $15 and are well worth it just to keep the antenna from flopping against the windshield spot lights and the windshield frame. What really brought that noise to light was reviewing the GoPro footage from last week and hearing the whapping noise every time I hit a rock/ditch/squirrel.

Thanks again to Fitzwilly.

Old antenna:

New one (looks like a secret government radio or something awesome like that)

I just ordered one from their website. While they don't give a JF discount per say, they do free shipping on website orders. I think mine was $15.99 My stock ant would always work its way loose a bit from all the rocking and then smacking branches and stuff while wheelin. The looser it wouold get, the more it would shake around and the more the sound would reverberate. This new ant looks great on your rig, so I hope it looks as good on mine. I have an HD radio in mine, so it will be interesting to see how it does with that.

BTW, for anyone who is interested, at least for my year TJ they have 3 different ants. This one, a billet aluminum like the stock one only shorter, AND an invisible one (it mounts up inside the tub).

You should, in no way, take any of this personally. It's just business. So to recap, I come in peace, I mean you no harm, and you all will die. Gallaxhar out.

I had the same antenna on my SRT4 a few years back. You shouldn't have any reception issues. At highway speeds it looked a little funny flopped over from the wind lol.
