My 91 YJ Build on a budget!

I got this Heep as a graduation present kinda. Picked it out of a few bone stock just like it in May 2008. Had 135k on the clock and no rust anywhere and hell, the A/C even worked. It came with just a Bikini so I bought a hard top off of craigslist the day after I got it. (I went to a rough Highschool and wanted to keep my goods)

Here it is the week after I bought it. 5/??/08

As of February 13, 2009

-Full TJ flare conversion
-30" BFG A/T
-Custom Tube Bumpers
-Tow Rope
-Tail light guards
-Shovel mounted in front frame support
-Herculined Tub
-Under hood ammo can storage
-1" Brandon_YJ shackles
-CB set up

The first thing I wanted was better bumpers for plowing through brush and small trees in the woods.

So I got permission to dig in the dumpsters at a few construction sites and found all of the metal I needed to weld a set of tube bumpers together.

The process.

And the finished product.

I also added those tail light guards to keep my tailgate and trees from busting my lights out.

Here's a pic of the front bumper. I didn't bother documenting how to make this one, it was much simpler.

what motor does it have? I am looking at a 93 like this one with a four banger. i have no intentions of going through any crazy offroad stuff with it , just deer hunting, around the farm, and maybe a little light offroad. but it would be my daily driver back and forth to college as well.

Has the 2.5 4cyl in it.

I love the engine thus far. It gets decent MPG for being a Heep, somewhere like 18-20.

Off-road it's done very well because it's so light I can push it out of most stuff by hand. I can't wait to look into buying a set of lockers though. Important feature here in the swamp/sand

More pics to come before I get up to date on what it looks like right now.

I normally drove without my hard top on sine it was regularly 95 degrees out. So, I decided to rip the carpet out and Herculine the Tub in September so I wouldn't have to worry about water damage as much.

Here it is.

And yes, that is an MRE under the driver's seat. Never know how long it'll take somebody to show up and pull you out of a hole. Might get hungry!

Thanks! I love this thing so much. I spend more time with it than most people now

Here's a door hanger I made for when I drive it naked.

Just used a flat plywood board for the base, a 2x4 for the shaft, and a piece of All-Thread on the top with heater hose around it to keep the doors from falling off or geting scratched up.

On the way home one day one of my tires split open and blew out It was time for those odd ones that came with the jeep to go!

So I got some 30" BFG A/T

I love them really. They handle excellently on the street which is where I do most of my driving. Off-road they do fine. I've made it through some very soft sand in them without lockers or even airing down! Mud is a different story however, I knew these wern't good for mud so I wasn't dissapointed at all. But, I need to hit the black top and clear my tread after a few min in the mud hole so they don't turn into complete slicks

I'm currently in the process of puting on 1" lift boomerang shackles, doing a TJ flare conversion, and repainting my hard top. Pics of those in the next few days for sure.

But here's a pic of Halloween. I was an Ape in a Tuxedo.

Had a very productive weekend.

Finished puting on my Brandon_YJ 1" shackles

Did the TJ flare conversion on the front, going to wait on the back. I will do the back flares when I go up in tire size to 31"s. Otherwise there will be a **** ton of space in the back and much less in the front.

Before

After

I really like the way it turned out. It was weird taking a grinder to my beloved Jeep, but it gets much easier after each cut. Plus, I got the whole fender set for $45

I painted my old decrepid hard top as well and patched up some chipped spots with bondo.

My wiper was broke so I took it and the motor off and sealed the hole with a bolt and washers. It turned out looking better than I thought it would.

And here's the Heep with a little rope I found in my garage. I kinda like the look.

Can't wait to get started on my CB set-up!
