Not so great, seems to like to eat Drivers side ujoints and outer stub shafts.

Theres no point going to a D44, as its the same size ujoint.

Thanks for the click free too!

I have been running a full-width Chevy D-44 front for ~7 years now. The only issue I have had is with mud eating everything up. I haven't had any breakage on trail due to a fairly rigorous maintenance after each major off-road tour. My brakes (front and rear) need to be changed twice a year (on average) because of the fine clay-based mud around here.

Ive snapped 3 outers and taken out the drivers side balljoints once, all wheeling in the snow, not even on the rocks.

Hate to say it - but - you might want to consider half-ton or greater strength in axles (you already are there in the back). My friend tried to swear by the stock front 1/4 ton rated axle with his 35" tires - he snapped U-joints like toothpicks. He got so good at replacing axles and joints that he had it down to under 15 min start to finish.

A good waggy Dana44 could help you out.

Keep in mind, one of those outers was a Warn Alloy. The problem lies in the WEAK outer/ujoint section, thats what keeps failing. A waggy 44 uses the same size 297x joint as im running already in my WARNs. So there would be no upgrade at all.

The only way for me to upgrade would be a D60 or 9" Front, but i have to keep it stock width to pass inspection here, as it is my DD.

I have the smittybilt bumper/carrier, i used a left-over bolt hole and put a bolt through the inside facing out with a nut on it, then 2 rubber gromits, one on each side of the jack.

The bottom rests on the swingout, i have a rubber base on my hi-lift that helps hold it in place.

Im going to build a large "wing-nut" to screw on and hold it to make for easier removal.

Good job man. Clean, not too overdone...very tasty.

Can you give me some details...I'm planning a build on a YJ and gathering info

what exact springs are you running?
What did you do to get the 100" WB?
What steering?
Stock steering box or upgraded?
What did you do for the gas tank?

thanks!!

Branon
