MjMy '88 Comanche

I picked up my '88 Comanche this summer and I've been slowly rebuilding it up to this point. I'd been looking on and off for several months and I finally found one. It's a 1988 Pioneer, 135k SWB 4X4. 4.0L I6, 5-speed, NP 231 t-case, Dana 30/35 with 3.07 gears. Faded Colorado Red paint and Rough Butterscotch interior. The day I brought it home:

The first thing I did was to yank out the interior and check for rust:

With the carpet out. More rust than I hoped for, but less than I expected.

Left side.

Right side.

Cleaned up the rust...:

...and laid down some primer.

Finished it off with a coat of bedliner.

The majority of the rust was caused by water coming in around the fuse box, which turned out to be damaged by the clutch master cylinder leaking on it. Missing terminals and PO 'repairs':

Interior upgrades include power windows, full guage cluster, gray dash and tilt column, etc. Out with the old dash:

New dash and interior under way:

Shifters:

Limited door panels:

New fuse box:

Progress to date:

Moved to the front suspension and yanked the old vacuum disco diff, and spent a few hours pressure washing:

The '99 D30 with 3.55's when I brought it home:

and after some elbow grease and paint:

I managed to score some skids at the Pull a Part. I got the one for the front and the one for the t-case for $8.99. I tried to tell the lady she priced them wrong, but she wouldn't hear it. Oh well:

I pulled the oil pan and repainted it and replaced the gasket:

I'd bought a '98 ZJ steering box and installed it w/ the stock pitman arm:

My son, Jake and I hung the D30 and the LCAs, he had classes that afternoon so I was on my own after that:

I managed the UCAs, bumpstops,...:

...springs,...:

...swaybar and endlinks.:

Total progress:

Pretty productive day, IMHO. I didn't get my shocks installed because I'm missing the sleeves for the upper bushings. I'll go looking for them tomorrow. Last look:

I drove to Salisbury and bought a newer model bench seat and had it recovered. It's on the list to be installed during my upcoming days off. Hopefully.:

Few dollars later:
