In addition to changing out the spring bushings on the front finally, I built this.... The new exhaust was so quiet I decided I needed a radio....

It is wired to the fuse box, but it has a quick disconnect where you could switch it to a cig lighter plug to put it in another vehicle. I have not wired up my cig lighter plug yet, but when I do my handheld CB will be plugged into it most of the time.

I tried it out tonight, and other then the speaker being old and crusty it worked well. I am going to replace the speaker and see how well it works then. This one distorts if you turn it up to hear it when going over 45. I didn't purchase one right off the bat as I wanted to make sure it would work.

I am trying to decide if I want the cig plug in the side of the ammo box. It probably will go in the dash though since the hole is already there for it.

I also need to figure out how to mount it so it is removable.

I used my CD player to test the tapedeck, but even with 40 sec skip protection I couldn't use it going down the road unless I set it in my lap, thats ok as I will use it with my mp3 player 90% of the time anyway. The cassette player made this a bonus as no need for FM modulators etc... plus I had it and it was FREE.

Went out tonight to put a new speaker on and ended up doing a lot more... I decided I wanted a riser, still not sure how I want to mount the box, but I wanted a riser.

I suggested to Adam maybe we could use my old YJ spare tire carrier that was going to scrap, he worked his magic and it actually is turning out great! Just need o figure out how I want to mount the box so it is removable...

Earning it's keep

Finished Radio pics...

Ended up using Industrial Velcro to hold it to the mount after painting it. Works EXTREMELY well.

That is such a sweet Jeep now. I do love these build up threads anyway but yours looks fantastic. It just ticks all the boxes in my mind what a real Jeep should be.
I used to have a 44 willys MB with trailer & loved it, sadly I sold it a while back but kept the trailer for camping trips with the YJ. Must say I want to try that trailer boat idea thing now though. I have used it to sleep in before now as it was raining too hard to get the tent up, not the most comfortable under the military grade canvas cover but good enough.

Keep up the good work.
Shane

New pic for my desktop...

Some more wheeling pics thanks to RenegadeII :thumb:

Casualty: 1 Marker light, and I pushed in the passenger side top rail of the tub a bit- again. I need to silicone the other into place. Also, If I ever plan to drive it 200+ miles in a weekend and do 5 hours of wheeling on top of that, a seat back cushion may be desirable. While I find the steel back very comfortable, it left a helluva bruise on my back from the wheeling.

I also realized I am going to HAVE to get different wheels for the wheeling tires. I cannot lower my pressure enough on these to get a good footprint when I need to. These rims were intended for tubes so there is no safety bead. When I air down I start loosing all the air over a period of time. There were some obstacles I think I could have got over either with a locker or airing down.

Yeah I should have never said that. It was a little punky, but not beyond usable.

I cracked the good pane of glass too....

Adam came over and helped me swap top bars so I have a hinge for my inner frame again.... got it almost done before I have to leave for dinner. I'll run plexi for a bit longer until I can afford to get glass installed. I just have some finish welding later this week, and then to try to knock off some more loose paint and paint the windshield frame...

I have one of those trailers. Where did you get the wheels and tires? Mine needs new ones.

I'm also looking at getting a '51 CJ2A to tow it with. We'll see. I have a 305 SBC and 350 tranny that is just begging to go somewhere.

Oh...BTW...Newie here

Wheels and tires are factory M416 on the trailer. You can get new tires from most tire stores special order, Firestone makes them.

IMO a V8 in a flatty is WAY too much motor, and also makes them much more nose heavy then they need to be, this throws off the way they wheel. A 305 would be a waste for all the work that would have to be done. (cutting into the firewall, custom radiators, very little room to run a fan) It wouldn't give you much gain over a 4.3L V6 and the 4.3 would be less work and you would gain FI. (much less cutting, better fit etc...)

You would be a VERY tight fit trying to run a TH350 as well, unless your stretching the Cj3A.

My 225 is about 165hp @ 4200 and 235 ft-lbs @ 2400 RPM and it has been just about perfect.

Wow your jeep looks amazing, especially after the new skinny tires.

It's so awesome to see a '46 running around in that kind of condition. Also the wheeling with the trailer looked like a lot of fun

I don't know if it looks amazing... it is pretty beat up and some rust still... But it runs, drives, and wheels

Well I don't know how your supposed to install the glass seals and inner to outer seal, but I ****ed them both up. The aftermarket windshield frames 'grooves' for the glass are much to thin to accept glass + seal, so for now I have plexi in there again.

The inner to outer seal was ****ty quality, the 'T' part of the seal did not fit well into the seal groove and when trying to slide it down the frame it tore It didn't help that the seal seemed to be a little short, and I was having to try to stretch it a little.

I'll get pics when I get home, I might be able to salvage it with superglue if I can get the seal into the damn inner frame. I am half temped to just save up for a really good condition original frame. The inner and outter just absolutely did not want to slide back together either despite grease, and nothing had changed from dry assembly on the garage floor. But now I have a small dent in the drivers side of the inner frame too.

Better Pics.

Together minus the seal using plexi again for now.... The plexi is dirty, not scratched.

I will **** with it when I get more time I guess...

Built a cover for the M416

Put the Thule rack on to see how it will work, I need J bars, but they are way damn expensive

Want to put the J bars on and try to put 2 bikes in the middle front to back, and make a cover for over all of it. Probably with an EMT conduit framework.
