MoparToYou's 2014 Two-Door JK Build

I thought I would share some details about my JK. I wanted this Jeep to be a capable and reliable trail rig, being as I sometimes go exploring alone. I knew I would need a strong drivetrain, and a winch. I have tried to limit the mods to just those that would improve strength and function, for a basic trail Jeep.

I took the Jeep to Impulse Off Road, in Salt Lake City to do the work. John Williams owns the shop, and has built a lot of capable Jeeps. He races both the KOH race in a highly modified JK, and the short course races at Miller Motorsports Part, in Tooele, UT, in a stadium race truck. This is the third vehicle John has built for me; the other two were a 2010 two door JK and a 2012 GMC Canyon pickup truck.

Here is what we started with, a 2014 2 door JK Sport.

Here is the list of changes that were made:

Teraflex 3" suspension w/ Fox shocks, Synergy control arms, JKS trackbars
AEV geometry correction brackets
Currie Anti Rock Sway Bar
Tom Wood driveshafts with 1350 u-joints
Dynatrac Pro Rock 60 axles, w/ 4.56 gears and Eaton electric lockers
Warn premium hubs on front axle
35" Toyo Open Country MT tires
Fuel 17x8.5 wheels
Poison Spyder bumpers and rocker guards
Teraflex spare tire carrier
Warn winch.

And this is how it turned out.

There were a few snags along the way. It took Dynatrac three months to build and ship the axles, instead of the two months it was supposed to take.

The Synergy control arms hit the AEV drop brackets at full suspension compression, and the brackets needed a little clearance work.

The Dana 60 front axle also hit the JKS track bar at full suspension compression. The JKS track bar was switched for a Teraflex trackbar, which solved the problem.

Tom Wood driveshafts w/ beefy 1350 u-joints should be plenty strong.

This is kind of hard to see, but it is a steel exoskeleton like cage around the transfer case. The stock transfer case internals are quite strong, but the aluminum housing can break from hard compression loads on the front axle. This device is made by Impulse Off Road, and prevents that problem.

Here is the Poison Spyder front bumper and Warn M8000s winch.

Here is the Teraflex spare tire carrier and Poison Spyder BFH rear bumper.

And here is a closer view of the Poison Spyder rocker panel guards.

35" Toyo MTs, Fuel wheels, and Warn locking hubs.

And finally, here is where the Eaton electric locker switches were mounted. These electric lockers work in 2WD, 4WD, high range, or low range.

Thanks for reading.
