here's a couple pics of the motor i got from the zj

all the plating cut out. the smaller pieces will be the new lifted body mounting outriggers. i will get approx 1" of body lift over stick without the need for actually having a body lift installed. the husky clevis mounts will go on the rear bumper.

pic of drivers side plated. pass side is the same plates. the underside plates aren't in the pic, they were made as i went from scrap i had laying around.

update.
more plating needed done than originally thought. cardboard was a valuable commodity around my house that day. all the body mount outriggers welded in place. second pass of weld is yet to be burned on. i will leave the holes uncut in the tops of the outriggers until i am ready to mount the body on. the 5.2 is all but pulled out of the zj. 24 hours ot this week and 40 hrs next. sunday is the only day i am only working 8hrs. i'll try to get some pics up.

well there has been issues that were even more important than the jeep in the past few months.
my old man has had us on the edge of our seats this summer. all turned out well and he is feeling better than before but long story short... stroke+stroke+heart attack=double bypass open heart surgery. now he is up and back at it 100% again so i have started back to my projects. he said he could still kick my arse and he would if i didn't stop babying him. so,lol, i am hoping to slowly ramp back into the build and get any of you who may still be following some pictures and such.

now that being said.
there has been a small amount of progress since the last postings.

i have located most everything i need to do the 5.2 conversion: bellhousing $75, new starter $20 (the old one fit but was on the wrong side of the motor and bolt holes were all wrong), advance adaptors motor mount set $170, dodge ram flywheel $50, dodge ram new clutch kit $175, oddball off size mismatched pilot bushing that took me forever to locate $8, retaining my clutch fork, throw out, and slave. i still need : a c.p.s. from the same years ram as i got the flywheel from, either a stock set of stock exhaust manifolds from a 5.2 truck (93 or newer) with a center dump or shorty block hugger headers(still in the research mode for the exhaust).
i have the 5.2 out and seperated from the old trans/x-case and sitting on an engine stand.
started cardboard fabrication stage with the motor mounts (the frame width is different from the zj by over 4").
got the frame plated and ready to paint with chassis saver.
body has had no work done to it
plus i have learned an exorbitant amount about mopar parts and crossreferencing them to the point i never wish to see another dodge/jeep/chrysler repair/service manual as long as i live.

thanks!
today i got the stock exhaust off, will need to do shorty headers as it seems the manifolds are pretty much all universal for the magnum 5.2's. no big deal just another unexpected expense.

if the wife leaves me be tomorrow afternoon i should have the motor sitting on a wooden cradle inside the frame rails to start mocking up new mounts. hope to have empty bell housing and transmission mocked up as well for fitment to a flat skid.
and i promise pictures tomorrow night. lol it's nice to be back to work on the old girl again. i was hoping to have the body and frame back together by now but fate had other plans.
thanks again for the support, when i am done with this i will have an entire inventory of dodge and jeep spare parts.
p.s. max the front clip of that cj is for sale if your interested. the grille has one vertical slat with a tiny bend in it other than that hood and grille are in awesome shape!
i also have a rebuilt Dana 300 t-case from that cj (was gonna adapt it to the ax-15 but was not practical adapting it was too much work).

few pics...

firewall with MONSTALINER coating

full underside after a full CHASSIS SAVER and MONSTALINER treatment

rear frame same treatment... i know the body mounting points look weak but they have been reinforced from underneath.

new lifted main body mounting points.

yes that's the 5.2 sitting in place. new motor mounts hopefully to be buzzed into place tomorrow. it's sitting on shims for the time being. but that is the exact placement of where it will come to rest.

here's a few pics i got a chance to snap friday.

inside of tub primered silver aluminum and first coat of bed liner over that.

here is the body just resting on the frame. i know it looks crooked, there is no body mounting hardware installed, it is sitting on a few wood shims.

as it looks with 31x10.50x15's on from the side. i think i will easily be able throw 33's under there after the body mounting hardware is in there. after a small suspension lift and a subtle fender trim 35's will go in easy.

pic of the flat underbelly skid. i got it bolted on today, however, it was too dark to take any more pics by the time it was bolted in place.

progress will be slow (i know my progress is always slow) until i get my daystar 1" body mount kit. i know they are only 150 bux but, it's still 150 bux. i will be getting custom made stainless sleeves, washers, bolts, and nuts made for the body mounts.

she is back in the basement where the whole project started many moons ago. waiting on funds for next step of construction.

daystar 1" body mount kit

all new hard brake lines (not so worried about extended flexi lines yet axles will more than likely be different)

new fuel lines

new mounting hardware for transmission and x-case.

start chassis wiring for lighting
