Count me in as one of the eager followers. Love the military theme, but being in the military I'm going a different route with mine. flat black all the way around.

i forgot the pics today. sorry guys i promise to get some tomorrow if the rain stops (the reason i didn't get them today).
found these.

http://www.discountjeepparts.com/pro...ducts_id/19139

and this.

12029.04 - Crossmember (Rear) For 1976-86 Jeep CJ5 CJ7 and CJ8 Scrambler | Discount Jeep Parts

all i need to find now is a place to get the frame outriggers for the body mounts. i may end up building them however. i thought about making a set of 6 but i saw them in quadratrack for 100 skins so i know i can prolly find them for 50 somewhere else. lol not worth my time if i can find them that cheap. and that will be then entire frame build except one freekin shock mount but i'll just cut that off my yj and re-use it.

well here's the deconstruction of that cj i have pics of earlier in the thread. not bad at all for a place to start.

here's where most all the work needs done.

the back 2 body mounting outriggers look like this.

and these are the only spots of the entire rest of the frame that needs repair.

it looks rougher than it actually is. the metal is still very thick on the rest of the frame and may get boxed in i haven't decided yet on that one. it really doesn't need it but since i am putting in a 300+hp motor (i decided to use a 305 i built many years ago for a hot rod Monte Carlo with the intake, injection, wiring, and computer from the k-series 350 i mentioned in the op) i might need to add a cross-member up front or maybe a few ladders but nothing major since these same frames had 304's in them in some of the cj's. none however were sporting that kind of power.

well that's it for this week probably. i need to buy a set of torches and tanks. before i can do a whole lot of fab work. i have access to a set but if i'm gonna be using the hell out of someones torches i think he will eventually get pissy with me. lol i have steel here and i fount those parts listed above. until i get some materials here to work with i am just in the idle stage for now. will wire brush the frame and maybe work on the wheel cylinders but that's it till i get crap to work with. it should move quickly after i do get started though.

just a quickie for the 1.3 people actually reading this. decided to re-use my old frame after much deliberation. either way i slice it i have some welding to do. the cj suspension is just way inferior to the yj setup. narrower springs, narrower axles (i could swap but they are already attached to the other frame.), less i mean way less shock height and travel at stock height. there are others and yes i know it can all be rectified with a little fab work. but the biggest boomer to my change of heart was the new chevy motor. i have gotten in contact with an awesome motor guy that wants to get on the engine for me. but it will be a long time before he can really get onboard with it. so if i want to even see any trails next year i will have to re-use my stock driveline. guess what it's sitting in good running condition in my jeep so why not leave it there and do the frame and body work around it. this may actually get me back on the trail as early as this fall.
well i ranted a little there but hey it's my build thread and i'll do whatever the eff i want to. lol

now onto actual progress updates. (pics to come) got the front body mounts welded up and ready for new captives. have new outriggers for the frame cut out to include a 1.25" body lift without the need of spacers on the center 6 body mounts. front clip is off the jeep, seats out, dash off, wiring all dissconnected and laying on the motor. body mounts all cut (mr. heat wrench was the only way they were so bad), windshield down, and ready to order a bedliner kit to do the entire salvage tub in. that's it for now but hopefully progress picks up.

i am also planning on taking some of my old usmc digital utilities to do the seats. i wanna sew the front closed and make the back of the seat look like a shirt with my nametapes and pockets still there. the bottom of the seat will be ... you guessed it old pair of trousers cut off the buttons and sew the crotch shut. here are a couple pics of the teardown of the old tub.

fenders, hood and grille off.

firewall all cleared of wiring and hoses. i just draped all the wiring and such over the motor. had to be careful of the brakelines from the master cylinder. used other wiring to keep it in place so as not to fall over and kink/break the hardlines.

after the dash plate was removed.

here's one after wiring and such were taken out. i always try my best to remove any wiring without cutting anything. it is a pain in the tookis but it is worth it in the end. i also take pictures of each and every plug before i disconnect it. then label the pic on my comp of where it is. alot easier than writing on a piece of tape on each side of the plugs. the tape can get tore off, greased up, whatever.

here is one of the method by which the tub was pulled up off the frame. that block and tackle was govt surplus my grandpa bought after coming home from the pacific in 1946. it still serves it's usefulness to this day. they just don't make stuff like they used to. second one is blocking between frame and body. i still need to unhook the gas fill tube and e-brake cable. but since we will need to carry the body out of my basement manually i wanted some space under there for reassurance it is totally disconnected.

that's it for today. tomorrow will hopefully see the tub removed and frame repairs to begin.

i am definitely going to por-15 the frame. and undercoat afterward.
taking any opinions on undercoatings. i have done some research on the following brands.

...por-15 chassis coat. likes: designed specifically to bond to por-15 paint, have read it is great for taking salty winter abuse. dislikes: don't really have any that i have read about.

... ultra tuff. likes: the reviews as far as durability, look, and ease of application. also that it comes in colors since i wanna use it as my paint on the body aswell it would be a one stop shop for all my rust prevention needs. dislikes: fact it is said to chalk after a few months if not clear coated. i do not want to clear coat

... herculiner/durabak (same company different product)... likes: it is tried and true as far as jeepers coating their tubs and underbody. same as above with the colors. it comes in an easy to apply kit. dislikes: from what i read it rolls on pretty thin (needs more coats for thickness). and from the reviews i have read it's very hard to clean. not that i am going to polish the jeep but it would be nice to just wiper her down from time to time to keep the acidic strip mine mud off the ol' girl.

now for the product i have really started leaning towards.

monstaliner... likes:2 part product, usually you get a harder end result with any 2 part polymer coating. once again comes in a kit. great customer service. i talked to their reps and instead of the usual " buy from us we're the best" their staff is knowledgeable about the product. goes on thick. i'm sure there's more. dislikes: no color options. that's about it.

well let me know what you think.

pics on camera but not here yet. batteries died in camera as i was taking last photos, lol. they are charging up and will have them up tomorrow. next update.
tub off! i hosed the frame off with hot water from the garden hose. just cleaned off the mud and some loose engine grime. will be degreasing and pressure washing then off to meet mr wire wheel before any plating is put on. (plating cut out will get pics of it aswell)
i have a complete rolling chassis with motor, trans, and x-case sitting in my basement. now the fun begins.
as a side note the progress on the build also inspired me to hose out my garage lol now i have clean floors and semi organized tool box's to work with. that scored points with the wife hopefully enough for a monstaliner kit for the frame and body. will be waiting for their color choices to hit the shelves and i'll be in line for od green. changed my mind from tan.... well cause i can.

thx fer the kudos. i just got back to work on it for the first time in like a month. got most of the frame fixed and almost ready to paint the frame. have a few pics of the work since last post. but since so much has changed since the original posting of this thread, here is an update to my plans.
instead of the chevy motor... i have been made an offer i can't refuse. without even looking at the jeep i said yes. but from what i was told it's (he thinks) a 1999 grand cherokee with 125xxx on it and a 4.7.

well his mom flopped it on it's side and got the insurance money out of it and he wants some body parts off it and i get the rest minus, rim,s tires grille, fenders, seats, and auto tranny, for 150 clams
so...
after i take a look at it i may be doing a rear disk conversion, a chrysler v-8 swap (i'm thinking it's a 5.2 but i aint openin my mouth to him), depending on gears i may swap in both axles whole sale with a s.o.a.
but i will have to get some pics first of what i have done since last post and a few of the jeep when it gets here Saturday
that being said... anyone looking for xj parts? lol i am looking for lift or soa parts to swap for. also 4" backspacing rims and or tires (33-35's) not really lookin for cash, parts are more desirable for me but the needs of other jeepers are never ignored.

well got the grand in my parking lot saturday. it's a 93 with a 5.2 and approx 118k miles on it, holy crap is right. 3.73 gears according to my xj buddy RATMONKEY. havn't checked yet for a lsd in the rear end but it has the tow package so i imagine it has one. at very least i'll use the ring and pinion for a free temporary upgrade to my 3.07's till i get it back together and have the cash for lockers and 4.10's, or even different axles all together. i owe you all some pics i know. also, weeks vacation and my welder takes a crap the 3rd day, needs carb rebuilt, just my luck.
