scored a stock (like new) black TJ front bumper for free from a friend who just bought a new smitty built.

i should be able to get that on tomorrow or Wednesday. i'm on vacation this week so i should be able to get everything except the exhaust finished this week.

no i havn't. there are a few places that have gotten dented from this or that. i have decided that the second coat will get sprayed after i get it inspected. this way i know all the major work is done and less likely to be working with heavy parts/tools around the jeep. i have a small chip on the tailgate where i dropped it on the pavement, a small chip on the door hinge from the hinge being misaligned, and one more small chip on the bottom of the tub below where the tailgate mounts when i dropped the tailgate while fitting the hinges.

this is tentative though, anything is subject to change.

i'll also get you whatever pics you would like. i'm going to be out tomorrow morning getting my d60 1 ton axles that are about 2.5hrs away. should be back early afternoon. i plan on doing some rear brake work as well as maybe getting my rear shaft in if my connection at the machine shop can get the yoke drilled to accept u-bolts instead of the straps. during this i will take tons of close up and distance shots from all around the jeep.

a bowless soft top is in my 5 year plan. lol

vanity and convenience items are the last to be considered. first goal is to get a valid PA state inspection sticker. then the 1 ton build, then i will be shopping for things like top, full doors, hood louvers (although they are functional, they are not necessary), hid conversion headlights, winch, jerry can mounts, swing out rear bumper, bla bla bla you get the picture.

now back to business...

woke up at 4am to drive 6 hours round trip to get these

dana 60 rear, after a little detective work by ratmonkey we're pretty sure it is off an old dodge cuc-v. the wms-wms is only like 64" very narrow for a d-60.

the front is a full width high pinion d60 from a 1978 f-350 that needs a little TLC. laundry list includes but is not limited to...
high steer arms
ball joints
rotors
pads
hubs
perches re-located
and a good cleaning with a fresh coat of chassis saver.

got the yoke back from the machinist (my brother) today. he was able to save the threads in the hole with the broken bolt stud in it.

he also gave it a good dip in the parts washer for me too.

and to top the day off guess what the brown santa brought me today?

i'll give you a hint... it's not green or black.

ooohhh oohhh I know this one lol.

those are nice looking 4" fender flares there. Metal cloak stuff just looks great.
Is it in your 5yr plan to get metal cloak rear corner wraps, and fender flares too, cause those look freakin awesome.

the rear may get cloaked. i plan, for now, to just trim for TJ flares.
i am going to have the build thread re-named to something of the effect of "1 ton full military yj build"

thanks, i am so excited to possibly get a wheeling trip or 2 in before summer ends. a year and half is a long time to wait to drive my baby.

i was off all last week for vacation and didn't touch the jeep once. the wife convinced me that remodeling the living room was more important. in trade i get my next week of vacation solely for the jeep with no honey do's. i have a lot of little things to take care of before taking it to the garage for exhaust.

for the time being i'm going to wire the following to a toggle switch.
reverse lights
wipers
electric fan

all of these will be properly wired eventually, i just want to make it pass inspection so i can drive it.

i will be finally placing the rear yoke back in, installing the rear DS, filling the x-case with fluid, and trimming up the rear drop gate install.

i also have been searching around on the forum for the no-start condition my 5.2 has been giving me. i was at my wits end after moving grounds, testing circuits, replacing sensors, and weeks of troubleshooting. i have found another problem the ZJ guys have with their pcm's. it seems it's a common occurrence for the 3 capacitors to pop or bleed causing the no start i am having. i will be getting replacement caps from radio shack and trying the fix on my pcm that way.

other than the exhaust this is all i should need for a vehicle that will pass a PA state inspection.
