Military '94 yj, now with more 'tons and hummer junk.

ok i'll start with my intentions
take a stock 94 yj and make it look similar to a hmmwv

bone stock yj (pic will show the "before")
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05020.jpg
a few pics of the reason to start with a different tub. this one is toast.
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05024.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05025.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05026.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05021.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05022.jpg

plan:
replace my rusted out tub with a salvage tub
(already purchased and in my parking space) $300
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05217.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05221.jpg

fabbed up bumpers. i have one started will include pics. freebie on steel from an aquatience.
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05150.jpg

jerry cans. freebies from local f.d. and they are the usmc ones too!
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05049.jpg
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05050.jpg

rhino line, line-x, whatever... the entire tub in a tan color with the interior getting a heaping layer of rubberized undercoating over top.

replace frame with an early 80's cj frame. mine is toast. (pics will show)
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05027.jpg

i understand they are better grade thicker gauge steel.
got the whole jeep for free just for hauling it away. will include pics after i actually ... haul it away

full skid. freebie used diamond plate from my work.

yj springs under the cj frame...for now

intend on using the axles from the cj as well but modifying the wheelbase to gain ds length. believe they are stock axles and pretty sure now they are amc 20 and d30. don't know that much about cj's but that's what i am guessing. it's a 4cyl so it has 4.10's

truss the amc20 and add an anti wrap bar.

driveline from a 89 k-series. T.B.I. 350, 700r4 trans, and i believe a 207-C-2 x-case. will get back to you on that one.
$200 for the whole truck in good running condition. my brother wrapped it around a tree on his way to work last year and never did anything with it. trans has a small leak in the pan but nothing blue silicone won't fix.

will have to do a SYE to gain a lil ds length.

now for all the stuff i still have to buy

electric fan.

dual exhaust. if i can figure out a legal way to do side dumps i will.

fab up some sort of external airbox like the hmmwv has on the pass side.

fab up tube fenders.

35" or 37" tires.

complete por 15 treatment to everything below the tub line.

on board air system using stiok a/c compressor and rear bumper as air tank.

tossing around the idea of building a flat cj style dash.

new aftermarket gauges and idiot lights.

that's about all i can think of for now. i'm sure i am forgetting something but it'll all come out eventually.

by getting the cj and using it as a rolling chassis i can start the build before taking my jeep off the road until i have some of the rough work completed. hopefully that falls in or around the late summer. that way i get to enjoy most of the trail riding season.

I think if you just paint the frame you should be good:laugh:
I love Military themed jeeps. Bring it on:thumbsup:

mike_breaker_5 03-26-2010 11:46 PM

well it's been abit since last post but slowly getting geared up for major de-construction. as promised here's a few pics of the parts jeep i got FREE!!! both axles are usable, and the rear has been confirmed as an amc 20, hood, grill, 80% of the frame, dash w/wiring, tailgate, and rollbar all usable parts.

the back 18" of the frame will need rebuilt. if you can believe it the rest of the frame is solid as a rock.
http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/x...5/DSC05274.jpg
sitting in a farmers field for god knows how long and look at that dash! it would be a shame not to use it.

i know it's not alot for now but still a little nippy up here some days. between the kids and new deck getting built, the boss has made it clear the jeep can wait till warmer weather.

Really like the military themes I'll be watching this for sure. Any chance that that cj still has the gas cap? I need to replace mine so shoot me a PM.

mike_breaker_5 04-05-2010 07:47 PM

update on the x-case. i found a dana300 in the pile of junk he left behind the seat. it seems ok and turns effortlessly with no side to side slop. will crack the case to inspect but i believe it's a keeper. will double stick it for sure. also got the body off the frame today. other than those rear spring perches it is in great shape. what a find i got in this jeep most everything is usable except the tub
i hope the build picks up for the 1 guy following my lack of progress. lol will get some pics tomorrow i hope.

You know by the end of this the time and money are worth more than you could sell it for but still wouldnt change a thing. Jeeps are addicting once we get a plan of attack

your not even close to kidding. bought that rust bucket last year. i have needed something to keep me busy after getting out of the service. my brother is a jeeper and got me hooked. he was my yoda for awhile but soon the student has caught up to the master. i am just as much a yj encyclopedia as he is for tj's, and since cj's are so similar ti yj's i am learning their parts and function quickly aswell due to the crossover i plan on building here. i love talking jeep with anyone. my wife rolls her eyes and just sits down if i start cause she knows there is no end in sight.
i hope i don't dissapoint anyone
