I figured since Brown Santa came today I should probably start a build page.

Here she is stock
2005 Unlimbited Rubicon 6 speed, full hard doors, hard top and soft top, Goodyear Duratracs.

First mod was to remove the only chrome on the Jeep, the headlight bezels, and replace with black.

Second was to change "Unlimited" to "UnLIMBited" (I lost my leg in a motorcycle accident in 2009). I think the name fits.

UPS delivered my front bumper and winch, rear should arrive Monday.

Quadratec Q9000 winch (price drove me to this choice ill let you know how it works, if I use it a lot ill put it on my daughters XJ and get a better one)
Smittybuilt classic front bumper with D-rings
Winch mounting plate
Bag of straps, gloves, snatch block, tree guard, and extra d-rings
Smittybuilt classic rear with tire carrier (reviews on this were 50/50, some love it some hate it, I'll let you know what I think)

That's all I could afford this go round. Future mods will include:

Old Man Emu super ultimate kit from DPGoffroad
Tires, thinking about 33x9.5s for my stock Rubi rims but still undecided.
Skid plates and underarmour.
Fold down rear tailgate.

I also made a hardtop hoist, ill put some pics up, works great!

Stock, the day I picked it up, Unlimited! Me.

Nice looking LJ , good to see you start your own thread !

Thanks, more pics to come this weekend. I want to take measurements of bumper heights to see if the heavy winch is gonna make Unlimbited sag at all. And Some more stock photos to one day look back on. I have a feeling this build is going to take a while. At least I don't have a bunch of J10 trucks to distract me from my build.

Looks like a great jeep to start with... I thought you had misspelled the title till I read a little further.

Nice Jeep buddy and love the color.

bobthetj03 03-01-2013 05:05 PM

Nice start! That's a pretty rare color.

Thanks everyone,

Got front bumper off no probs. smittybuilt is showing its quality already, SB classic only bolts on with 4 bolts instead of 6 like the factory bumper. Also had to drill the bumper to install winch plate, that will make up for lacking the other two bolts.

Work was put on hold, my daughter hit a deer with her XJ. Had to move jeep out of garage to hang a deer. XJ survived with a few small dents and scratches.

Here is my home made hard top hoist. Total cost $81.89 at Harbor Freight and Menards. I used canoe pads between 3/4" pipe and top in front and a strap in the rear. I wanted to be able to lift top ALL THE WAY to ceiling so garage door would open below top. I used a worm gear crank, it's slow, but I don't put top on and off a whole lot.

Garage was tied up with a deer my daughter hit hanging there watching me, couldn't get much finished till I took it to get processed.

So, Smittybuilt front and rear installed. Dropped only 1/8-1/4" in ride height. I'm already used to how much of the frame is exposed without the plastic frame cover. It bothered me at first but I'm okay with it now. I wouldn't recommend the front without a winch plate. It helps tie bumper into frame. Without it bumper is only fastened with four bolts, with it it's tied in with ten bolts total

Hoist worked out well! Taking advantage of unused space is always good. I run those same bumpers on my rig, both of them. I did cut out four inches on each side of the front and re weld on the end caps for a stubbier bumper. This was after i put on the metalcloak fenders, with the stock fenders the standard length of the bumper looks fine. Overall your Jeep is badass dude, LOVE the color, would LOVE to be starting out with it, A sensible lift, armor, wheel and tire package and this thing is just about as good as it gets.

I dont need it , just want a two door . Good ones are hard to find , and this one looks awesome . At some point I will add a two door to the collection to replace the four door that got totaled .
