Marn, is your tank metal? I know the later 70's ones are plastic... No clue on when they switched.

You bought that carb on craigslist didn't you? Even though it looked as if it was new in the box. it could possibly have been tried on an old vehicle for a few dirty days and then boxed back up. The other suggestions are most likely correct, but stranger things have happened than a person sticking an item back into its packaging very carefully and claiming that it is new. Good luck.

Anything is possible, but i sniffed around it and there was ZERO hint of gas, and it was clean as a whistle inside and out.

First, good looking truck. I like the simplicity of it vs. the 80's models that had enough vacuum line under the hood to circle the earth.

I ran a 1407 Edelbrock on my '63 Chevy C10. I used to run a Fram fuel filter, a G2 I think, right next to my carb because of the truck's rustastic fuel tank. I would keep a spare as the filters would just get clogged with rust.

Don't know if you got the manual for the carb with the box, but it has a troubleshooting guide in it (page 22 of the manual, 23 of the pdf)

Just FYI, not sure if you are still running that Pro Flow air cleaner setup, but if you are be aware that a backfire up through the carb will melt the foam element and it will drip down into the carb and cause issues.

Thanks for the tips, but I have removed the proflow a few months ago.

No. I just replaced the filters and cleared out the carb. It runs but I havent driven it around to see if it will flood or anything. No time or interest at thesis juncture. When it's broke it don't cost me anything

Well, minor victories I suppose.

I came home today, and apparently was feeling frisky. I fired up the old girl, and let her warm up, then romped her around the block a few times, with zero issues. I got a few strange looks as everyone in the neighborhood who was outside saw 5000 pounds of jeep roaring by, but thats about it.

Pulled into the driveway and let her idle, nice and smooth, but did SMELL a bit funky. I'm going to attribute this to the craptastic gas I got in Ely.

I put a vacuum gauge on it while idling in park, and she was pulling a near perfectly STEADY 18" which is about perfect.

Seems to be healthy?

Last weekendd I picked up a cheap clear fuel filter and threw it inline, up by the gas tank.


And installed a new one up front by the 100% cleaned out carb.


Hopefully she'll keep on purrin, and shouldnt have any gas venting issues in the cooler weather.
