Look what else i got! (and thats a haynes manual on the floor too).

Craigslist rocks. Damn near new HF 2 ton engine hoist, and a 2 ton load leveler, for $125. Not bad if you ask me. Woulda been about 200 with my coupons and tax if i bought it new.

This thing is HUGE. I was gonna get a foldable deal, but didnt wanna spend the extra 50 bucks. remove 4 bolts and this one stores smaller than the foldable one will.

Going to get the engine on saturday.

PHEW!

Well, the motor was supposed to be prepped when I arrived at 11am (left vegas at 6 am). Well, long story short, we didnt leave California until 5pm....Whoever is buying the transfer case and tranny ought to thank me! They'll be ready for pickup.

Anyway, it was fun, defintely the most work I've ever done to a vehicle in a single day.

When we arrived...

After dropping the t-case and unbolting everything:

My friend, helper, and fellow Vegas jeeper. Known as YOJIK on JF....

its free!

Ready to load! (me)

Built a pallet into an engine crate, worked awesome. didnt move an inch the whole 300 mile trip. Also helped that we had like 73 ratchet straps.

Got it home last night, went out this morning somehow managed to move it to the back of the truck, unloaded it, then fought with it for a few hours to get it setup nice on the stand (it was my first time...and it was a huge pain in the arse).

finally in its resting spot until i get bored enough to clean it up and prep it for install.

Phew. that was exhausting.

Can you not just use the ones you have on the old motor?

Short answer....

no.

The fan pulley is for 3 belts on the new one....my old setup is for 1 only.

The old alternator bracket is different than the new, and the newer alternator is dual pulley.

Not only were there 14 years difference between these motors...but by the late 80's chrysler has purchased AMC, and was doing things their way....like painting the engine black. Who the hell does that?

Hoping this weekend to start in on the engine.

Step 1: degrease the sucker. it is GROSS to say the least. Whoever sealed up the valve covers did so with just RTV it seems, and it's seeped all down the engine. Oil pan seal doesnt look bad, and the oil pump looks okay too. Hmm.

Step 2: Gaskets. I'm going to replace the valve cover gaskets with a rubber set, and probably do the oil pan as well, just for good measure. I'll also pick up a set of exhaust gaskets, even though the ones on my current engine are near new. I dunno if you can re-use them.

Step 3: Thermostat housing. This thing is a damn mess. Nasty seepy crusty gunky, whatever you wanna call it. Needs to be removed, cleaned up, and replaced. I'll drop in a 180 degree t-stat also.

And thats my plan for the weekend. Easy simple stuff.

My other plans for the weekend involve getting this to the range to get the optics zeroed in. I cannot wait!

Thanks! Also picked up some 20 round mags for it as well. Now all it needs is an M2 Bipod.

Also got a few more parts I was missing for the engine, I got the fan and pully, along with belts.

Still gotta find the alternator bracket and manifold bolts and I should be ready!

It is, but I feel all bad for being so rough on her, haha.

She deserves a little R&R....removal and restoration! Engine comes out soon.
